CHAPTER 5

Aiden looked at the woman pleading for him to leave her father because she did it, he felt his wolf again and almost shifted in anger, thinking what the hell the moon goddess was thinking.

He knew she was his mate the second he saw her but he couldn’t put it past that she killed those men in cold blood for no reason, they had families, wives, children, he hated that she was his mate and had no compassion.

The fight around them became a haze, some men have on Guero’s side had left their position seeing he was down which gave Aiden the upper hand, he mind linked Damien and told him to back off since Guero was down and he had the culprit in sight.

He was aware of her movement though he told himself it was because he was being cautious, she could be hiding a weapon and is just getting ready to attack when his guard was down.

“Sir,” Damien walked to where they were standing, he had blood on his hands, and he doesn’t fight with guns, always choosing hand-to-hand combat. Aiden nodded for him to go on, “A few of them have retreated, should they be brought or….” His eyes moved to the girl that was still crouched next to her father, someone was helping her put pressure on where he was hit, now that he was looking, it was his shoulder that was hit.

“They’re not a threat, call an ambulance,” Damien looked at him like he grew horns before turning and leaving to do what he was told.

Aiden looked at his supposed mate, seeing the tears run down her face as she tried to keep her father from losing consciousness, he almost couldn’t believe she killed those men but the logical part of him reminded him of her reputation.

Everyone knew Guero’s daughter to be heartless, some people say the only reason he is successful is that she is his second in command. She was manipulative and would do anything or hurt anyone to get what she wants.

“Get up.” He couldn’t control the roughness of his voice thinking, the men she had killed also have families but she didn’t give that a thought.

She slowly got up and wiped the remainder of her tears, not caring that the blood on her hands got smeared on her face. She turned back and gave her father another look before standing fully.

The paramedic rushed in and moved Guero to a stretcher before wheeling him out, Catherine wanted to follow but the man standing beside her didn’t look like he would entertain that.

Catherine watched the paramedics rush out and get back in their car. She wanted to move, heck she willed her body to move but somehow something hold her still standing beside her father as though she's glued to the ground.

She heard the siren until it faded out as the ambulance drove down the long driveway. She remembered walking the length of that driveway, it felt like a lifetime ago, and it's was just hours ago. But then the irony of the situation almost made her laugh, the thought that she'll look crazy stopped her.

A low grunt, or was it a growl made her look up to the man beside her, he is taller than she, and she have to crane her neck upwards before she noticed he was already looking down at her with an expression she couldn't place. Something between hatred and admiration.

"I'm just seeing things. I'm sure, with all that's going on, me hallucinating shouldn't surprise me." She muttered.

He motioned to the other man that came earlier to come forward and he did, he pointed to her like something he had to tick off his to-do list.

"Take her to the territory and keep her in the questioning room," the man nodded and moved to grab her. She didn't know when she stepped back with a shout.

"Stop, no please wait, I have to go and see my father, please let me see my father." She screams stepping out of his hold. He moved backed immediately as someone stopped him.

Seeing the opportunity she went back to the other man who she's sure is the one in charge and let the little girl that's always looking for her father's approval out. She sobbed so hard that her body started shaking.

Both men looked panicked before the one in charge told her to stop, and no, he didn't plead or say it softly, he snapped like he was irritated, which she guess he was because her crying was a bit dramatic.

She knew if not for her crying they might want to deal with her too. Take her to the questioning room, torture her and break her further.

"We'll drive to the hospital but you have to shut the fuck up."

She nodded eagerly and followed him. They walked up to his car and he made her get in before him. She thought that's because he was a gentle man or Perhaps he was a brutal person.

***

The ride to the hospital was the most uncomfortable for Aiden, he didn't know the mate bond still fucking worked even after he rejected her, he has to fucking ask someone because his wolf was going crazy, from the pain he felt from being detached from his mate and anger at the whole unfortunate situation.

He knew he could've just shoved it under the rug but the Alpha part of him wouldn't let the death of those poor innocent men go unpunished.

He failed to ignore her when her scent was all over the place, and she couldn't sit for the life of her he guessed since she has been shaking her leg since she sat in the car.

He couldn't believe she was the woman that a lot of people feared or maybe seeing her father almost die had her shaken up.

It's none of your business, he admonished himself, he needed to stop the burst of emotions.

They reached the hospital and she all but ran inside, one of the nurses told her he was in the operation theatre so they had to wait.

Dejectedly, Aiden sat on one of the waiting chairs while Catherine paced, occasionally stopping when she sees a nurse or doctor pass by.
