Chapter Void

“What the fuck! Ivana!” I rushed over to the kitchen and turned off the gas. The place was filled with smoke so I opened up the window while I turned to Ivana with anger in my eyes. This was the second time she was trying to burn down the house.

Ivana who was switching the other appliances off turned to me with sadness in her eyes, her lips curled up and her eyes were like that of a wet puppy. Her face was covered with charcoal and her apron was a mess.

“I am sorry.” She pressed down her lips and blinked her cute blue eyes, the anger I felt inside suddenly reduced. Who in this world can stay angry at this girl?

“What the heck do you think you are doing?” I raised my voice but deep down I wasn’t mad at her, I just wanted her to think I am mad at her.

She stepped away from the table and pointed at the menu book that was on the table. “I wanted to make that for breakfast.” She said softly. “But, I ended up burning the whole meal.” She closed her eyes and sobbed.

I chuckled but pressed my lips together in order not to let it out as I walked over to the table and glanced at what she was trying to prepare. “You can’t even cook, why would you think of preparing this?” I turned my eyes to her.

“I Just wanted you to wake up to a delicious meal, I heard it makes the heart warm, also I wanted to try to be like Mrs Jane for today, but I messed it all up.” She covered her face with her palm.

I closed my eyes, she was still doing all these for me, because she saw me sad. Rule number one, never show your sadness to others, you may get pitied.

I looked down at her hands and saw a cut on them. I held her hands, glancing up at her. “You even hurt yourself.” I furrowed my brows.

“I mistakenly cut myself while chopping the vegetables.” She looked down at her hands. “I am okay, it doesn’t hurt much, it will heal soon, see, it isn’t deep.” She retracted her hands but I held it again and led her up to my room.

“What are you doing?” she asked while I made her seat on the sofa and took out my first aid kit. I applied the disinfectant and put a band on it to cover the surface, all these while I noticed Ivana staring at me.

“I know I am handsome, but don’t stare too much, you may fall in love.” I looked up at her face and she quickly looked away.

“Who is staring at you?” She scoffed, pulling her hand from mine as she looked at it. “Wow, you band it so well, how did you learn this?” She gazed up at me.

“I am not a kid, this is the basic, and I don’t have a low IQ as you, neither am I stupid.” I got up and placed the first aid kit back where it belonged.

“Did you indirectly say I am stupid with a low IQ?” Ivana knitted her brows, her lips curled up and her blue eyes glared at me.

“You should be aware of that already.” I brushed past her, heading back to the living room and she followed me.

“I am not stupid, I am smarter than you are.”

“Look who burnt all the meat and almost burnt down the house, don’t you think you have enough evidence to know how stupid you are?” I turned to her and she frowned.

“Then why don’t you try to make a meal, let’s see how good you do that!” She said in a loud angry voice and I chuckled.

“Rather than using these tactics, why don’t you tell me directly to make you a meal?” I raised my brows and she pressed her lips together and I smirked. “I am not foolish, you know,” I told her and walked out.

“Hey.” She followed me outside. “Don’t brush it all aside, you know you can’t cook, you want to use this way to cover the fact that you can’t.” She retorted and I halted.

“Go inside Ivana, I am tired of talking to you, you always have a way of making others talk.” I pinched the space between my brows, I just needed a moment of peace this time, but the person standing right here wouldn’t give that.

“This is just great isn’t it, you are changing the topic, just admit that you can’t cook, then using this way of escape, it is truly childish.” She folds her arms and taps her foot.

I closed my eyes, I was suddenly having a headache. “Think whatever.” I turned to head to the garden, but Ivana blocked my path and her eyes flicked to my face.

“You look pale, are you alright?” She stretched her hands to touch me but I stepped back.

“Stay away from me.” I pushed her hands away, hoping she would do as I say but she still managed to touch my forehead.

“You are burning hot Robin,” Ivana said out loud, and her angry face suddenly became worried.

“I think you are the one burning hot while saying shit.” I brushed past her. I shook my head that had suddenly made me feel dizzy. I don’t know why I felt this way either, was it because I cried so much last night, something I have never done in forever.

“Robin, you need to see the doctor.” Ivana stepped forward and I gazed at her.

“I think you are the one who needs to see the doctor Ivana.” I smiled weakly. “I wonder why you are suddenly getting close to me, don’t mind the things I said last night.”

“Stop talking nonsense Robin, you are trying to change the topic.” Ivana stepped close to me. “You need to see the doctor, see your lips are getting purple and how can you be sweating in cold weather like this?” Ivana pointed at my face.

“You are the one saying gibberish.” I felt drowsy, I had to shake my head, but suddenly the hotness I felt when I woke up made me stagger, I became so weak as when I was looking up in that attic room, and my vision blurred.

“Robin!” These were the last words I heard as I blanked out falling to the ground.
