Axel carressed the side of his forehead as he propped his elbow on the arm chair of his seat. The announcement had just been made about the all out war. Now, he was inside his den to prepare his speech tomorrow, as he was receiving a lot of complains from his natives.
Some of his wolves did not want to involve themselves in the Wesleyeian’s war. Some reasoned out that it will not benefit them. Some even courageously refused.
For the past days, ever since he made the declaration about helping the Wesleyeians, Axel had not disclosed many information to his wolves. He announced the alliance. Who the chosen wolves, and healers would be. As well as when the war would happen. But he excluded what led the Wesleyeians tribe in their current situation. Axel did not also inform his wolves concerning his own reason. And just a while ago, he proclaimed an important change without imparting what made him do so.
The complains were understandable and reasonable. Axel had seen it coming at some point. But as he didn’t want to reveal a paramount information to the public, he condoned it.
Just the flaw was that he got to deal with the aftermath.
Axel heaved a deep breath. He sat straight, and continued reviewing the phrase he wrote.
Axel hadn’t change his mind. He wasn’t going to tell his pack about what they had discussed earlier with Edward and Efraim. But he could use the sudden attack of the Crimson Red. He could emphasized the casualties, and that an all out war was to prove the Western Border’s strength, along with avenging his men.
Surely, it won’t be enough. But it would make sense. It would justify his actions, and thenceforth, he could use his power to make all of them submit.
Axel intently read what was in the paper. He was planning to finish it today, since there would be much important things to do tomorrow. The speech was only the groundwork. Where Axel would focus thereafter would be a lot more crucial.
And it seemed it wasn’t only the benefits, nor his yearning to be in the battlefield, that was rendering him to put all his attention in this. But the compensation he’ll have to pay if he won’t win the war.
It was to slaughter, or to be slaughtered.
Silenced occupied Axel’s space as he carried on with his last undertaking. It was already eight on the evening. Axel usually leave at six or seven, but since this was needed tomorrow, he had to stay and finish this.
Amidst of Axel’s endeavor, a knock from outside the door interrupted him. Axel took a swift glance on the closed door, as he tried to guess who was outside when he was sure he told anyone to not disturb him. His lips protruded, wishing it wasn’t her.
“Come in.”
Axel let go of his pen. And once again, pushed back his body on the mushy backrest of his chair. His eyes graced the doorway, waiting for whoever knock to open it. He kept his mouth closed, internally hoping it wasn’t a woman whose face belonged to a female wolf named Rebecca.
“I see you’re still here late at this hour…” A voice dipped with honey passed by on Axel’s ear as soon as the door opened.
To his prediction, it was indeed Rebecca. With a daring clothing she only used to wear at the Palace.
“I was just hoping it was someone else.” Axel avowed. “What made you come here late at this hour, Rebecca?”
Ever since he threatened her, Rebecca marvelously understood the assignment. She didn’t bother him, nor Sophie. And it gave him quite a time to focus on the war, instead of dealing with her shallow ploy.
“I heard from Edward.” Rebecca took a step forward as soon as she shut the door closed. “You’ve become dependent to him.”
Dependent? Axel’s eyes dignified his pride. He watched Rebecca walked from the door to the chair in front of his table, with a suppressed smirk marking her lips.
Though, he got Edward involved in his affairs with Efraim twice in a row now, he strongly deny Rebecca’s claims about his dependence to her mate. He perceeved Edward as someone capable. He thought of Edward as someone who could help him with some of his concern–– but it was not dependence. Axel believed he was only making full use of their alliance.
As much as he wanted to shove that to Rebecca’s face, Axel didn’t want to prolong the conversation. He thought Rebecca wasn’t worth the time he’ll spend to explain himself. Besides, who was she? A mere female wolf whose current mate was the Alpha of the Dark Silvers? Her opinion wouldn’t matter to him. It shouldn’t.
“Cut the chase and tell me why you’re here,” Axel impatiently told Rebecca.
“I heard you sent Hugo together with your trusted Beta to find answers, Axel…” Though, Rebecca’s tone was endearing, Axel could almost taste his exasperation as he continuously hear Rebecca’s taunts.
“Get to the fucking point.”
“My. Why are you so impatient? You used to love it when I’m around, hmm.”
“Does Edward even know you’re here?”
“Of course, no. Why would I let him know that I’m visiting my ex-Alpha?”
Rebecca slowly stood up from the chair, not leaving her eyes off the miffed Alpha. It was hard to get in Axel’s den with all the stairs she needed to take. So, she’ll make it worth the while.
Besides, after she found out from her little informant, Flora, that Axel sent Hugo and the others out to seek information the moment they separate ways, Rebecca had a feeling it was because they weren’t able to have a baby.
Because Axel would never send his men if it was just for another Kingdom’s information. It had to be personal. Something that had been tickling him.
Rebecca treaded to get on the other side. Now that the possibility was a little high, she was thinking of using it. To get Axel. To steal him.
Leaning down, Rebecca slowly scraped Axel’s shoulders. Slipping her fingers from the top of his chest, downward. She wore Axel’s favorite perfume of her just for this very moment.
“I’m about to deliver my baby with Edward…” Rebecca’s whispered on his ear. “If you’d like, I can become your concubine. Be with me again, and I shall conceive your baby.”
