Chapter 77

“The child you have been wanting for, kind Sir. Teresa claimed Ms. Sophie is pregnant with your child.”

“Child?” Axel repeated, bewildered.

A child he had been waiting for? Was Teresa trying to say his Luna wasn’t sick but pregnant?

The Alpha’s brows furrowed. He gave it a thought. What Mary said had completely stole his attention. Because if it was indeed true, then…

Axel turned around and trudged to see Sophie up-close. What Teresa said was baseless. But if he would think about it, it was indeed strange.

The training had only been a few days. She couldn’t have been that weak to have her energy absorbed when she was keeping her healing ability her whole life. She should have at least managed to hold out until two months. It was the minimum limit.

But that hypothetical conclusion was only due to his speculation that it was because of their practices to build up Sophie’s knowledge and experience. If he was to look in another perspective, that certainly won’t be the case.

But that was if there was another perspective to look at. She had Flora beside her. Her servant wouldn’t have allowed her grace to caught sickness without telling him. And based on what he heard, Sophie had only shown symptoms this morning.

Just right when Axel was about to ask Mary, he remembered one thing.

Teresa also visited him before. Before he even sent Hugo and the others to gather information from him. If he can recall it right. Teresa methaporically said Sophie will grant him a child. Only it was vague then that he didn’t realize what it meant.

Was Sophie really pregnant? Was what Teresa said before, true?

Axel’s lips pursed. He took another step again, and sat on the edge of the bed. His eyes graced Sophie’s feeble face. It was still a possibility, but it managed to ease him down.

If Sophie was indeed pregant, then, he would be really happy.

Axel lifted his right arm to reach for Sophie. He searched for her hand, and held it. He embraced Sophie’s frail and cold hand with his, hoping he could at least give her some warmth.

What Mary said bothered him. It gave him hope, and a glimpse of delight. Axel waited for Flora and the physician. He didn’t leave her side, and remained awake, even when he was tired from work.

He was still worried, despite the conclusion. Therewithal, he was agitated to hear from the physician. He wanted to confirm whether or not his Luna, Sophie, was carrying his baby.

With that in mind, Axel stood up the moment he heard from the servant, Mary that Flora and the Physician had arrived. He went out of the room to physically greet the doctor.

“Thank you for coming, Mr. Roce.” The Alpha formally thanked the doctor whom Flora brought. It was someone he already knew. “It is very assuring to know you’re the one who’s going to check on my Luna, Sophie.”

“The pleasure is mine, Alpha.” Mr. Roce held his hat to vow before the leader of the pack. “Ms. Flora had already fill me in with details. Now, I just need to see her and check for a diagnosis…”

Axel nodded his head. “Very well. Follow me, Mr. Roce.”

Mr. Roce was a physician known in the whole Kingdom. He was but a noble man whose skills were sharp and excellent. He was one of the best physician there was. One with a high-ranked healing ability, who have mastered his ability in sharpness. He was on the same league as Monique, so Axel was really please to see him on the doorway with Sophie’s servant, Flora.

He was glad to have been the one Flora brought. At least, he can make sure the diagnosis would be accurate.

Axel led the physician upstairs towards their shared lair. He told Mary and Flora to stay outside, and to never let anyone disturb them, unless he permitted it. Axel wanted it to be private.

Axel watched how Mr. Roce walked towards the bed with his necesarry equiment. His chest beated for hope. To let it it be pregnancy and not sickness. He wanted to, yet he did not tell the doctor about the possibility. Since there was nothing else right now to support it.

They had sex, yes. The symptoms could prove it, but high fever, and vommiting could also be something else. So he could not diagnosed it without a solid ground.

“Does this happen usually when she’s tired?” Mr. Roce asked. “Flora told me she suspect it is because of her constant practices with Ms. Monique.”

“This was the first time she’s utilizing her healing ability often, so I also thought it might be the case.” Axel replied in a serious tone, whilst he was intently looking at Mr. Roce.

“It is highly possible that her energy is getting absorbed caused by her constant practices of healing. However, it has only been a couple of days.” Mr. Roce laid out his opinion. He was already using his prowess to check what it was that made Sophie’s body to react this severe. “It is too soon for her body to react.”

It was just as Axel thought.

Even on her ranked, Sophie should have been able to keep the side effects off the bay. After all, it was the only reason Axel had allowed Sophie to undergone such serious practice.

“I will run some test to make sure, Alpha.” Mr. Roce looked back to him, asking for permission. “If she is not a healer, I would have been able to determine it easily.”

“Does that make a difference?”

“She is a healer, Alpha. If it was a normal illness caused by plague, food poisoning, or internal conflict, her body would have healed its own. It is basic knowledge for us with healing ability.”

Axel breathed hard. What Mr. Roce said made him hope even more. If this wasn’t really a natural illness her powers couldn’t resolve. Then maybe, his Luna, Sophie, was really pregnant.

“Do everything in your power to determine what illness befell Sophie.” Axel granted him permission. “And I shall reward you after you give me an answer.”
