Chapter I Hate You

Silence...

Ava was shocked when she saw Veronica standing at the door, and she was sure she heard everything. Seeing how Veronica looked at her with anger made her think she needed to explain everything to her. She stood up and was about to go closer to Veronica when it was Jaxon who quickly rushed towards her.

“Where do you go? We search for you!” Jaxon was about to hold Veronica, but she only flinched from his touch. She couldn't believe that she was dumb to think Jaxon had changed. She didn't know Ava, her only sister, was the one who would help Jaxon to manipulate her emotions.

“Veronica...” Jaxon whispered her name and was about to hold her again, but she stepped away and looked at him with resentment. Her anger rose to Ava, James, and Jaxon. She bit her lips as she tried her best to hide what she truly felt. She felt betrayed by anyone, and seeing how Uriel looked at her made her think Uriel already knew Jaxon had regained his memories.

Since she came to Jaxon's pack, she hated herself to become stupid when it came to him, and now she was still foolish to think Jaxon had changed.

“Veronica, let us explain first. I can answer whatever you want to know.” It was Ava who spoke. Fear enveloped her eyes as she tried to stare at her eyes. Veronica swallowed. What's the use of explaining their side if she knows everything she heard? She could process it.

“Ava, I can't believe you do this to me. I'm your sister; you see me at my worst, yet you help him?” She gulped hard while she was pointing at Jaxon, who seemed shocked when he saw how mad she was. Her tears formed, and when she closed her eyes, her tears fell on her cheeks.

“Veronica, I'm only doing this for you! I only think that----”

“It's because you don't trust me enough. You are more wise on me, that's it.” Veronica didn't let Ava continue what she was going to say. She gritted her teeth and glared at Ava. “I'm your sister, yet you played my emotions, my decisions! I can't believe you played me so well.”

“I don't play you. I only think about what's best for you. Veronica, we both know how---”

“How stupid I am.” Veronica was the one who finished Ava's words. Ava was stunned. How could she end what she would say if Veronica always cut her off? She couldn't stop herself from feeling irritated. She never thought Veronica would be mad at her, but she was grateful that she only cared for her.

“That's not what I'm going to say. You are only emotional.” Ava only uttered, making Veronica mad at her even more. She felt she was overreacting in Ava's eyes. Her jaw clenched.

“Yeah, I'm emotional. That's why I'm not reacting correctly. Ava, I trusted you because you're my sister. We promised each other we would not have secrets between us anymore. It's you who break your promise to me.”

“Veronica... That's not what I mean. Okay? Please hear me out.”

“Veronica!” Jaxon rushed to Veronica when she was about to leave, held her hand, and pulled her closer to him. He tightened his grip in fear of losing Veronica. He was afraid.

Veronica stared at him emotionless. She seemed agitated when she removed his hand from her hand. “Are you happy how you make me so gullible, Jaxon? I hate you so much. Don't you dare go to me?”

“I---” Jaxon paused. He had closed his eyes and let the emotion be exposed. He didn't mind if Veronica would see how vulnerable he was. All he thought was to make her stay with him whatever might happen.

“I don't need your explanation. I don't think you don't intentionally hide everything from me. I feel stupid for trusting you a lot of times, Jaxon. I thought you changed, but you're still the most manipulative, heartless Alpha I've ever known!” Veronica was gnashing her teeth. She closed her eyes and let the tears flow. She turned her back, and Jaxon felt the thousands of knives stabbing his chest.

He couldn't understand why he didn't have the strength to explain everything to Veronica. He wanted her to know his side, but how? Veronica's mind was already clouded by anger, and there was a possibility she wouldn't listen to her.

“I hate you, Jaxon. I don't want to see you again.” She whispered, made his wolf howle in sadness. His wolf was begging him to plead with Veronica to take them back again. Jaxon didn't even bother to explain his side, and his wolf cursing him for being stupid.

Veronica ran away from Jaxon's pack. She thought that everything that happened was familiar to her. She felt she had lost the most important man in her life, but she needed to do that to make Jaxon see that she was worth being loved for real.

As she was running in the middle of the forest, a loud thunder struck and hit the tree branch. She sobbed. She covered her mouth using her hand as her hands turned blurry. She couldn't see where she was going, but what she hoped was to run away from the pain she felt in her heart.

“Veronica...” It was Veron who welcomed her into the pack. She bit her lips and tried harder to prevent herself from crying. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she hoped Veron wouldn't disturb her while she was emotional. “You need to eat your food. I don't think it's a good idea you're skipping your meal.”

Veron rushed closer to her while there was a porridge in his hands. He placed the tray on the table and hugged her. “I know you are in pain, but have you already asked Jaxon about his reasons? I know he's stupid, but he's the type of person who doesn't have the time to explain himself. Did you know why Ava helped him?”

Veronica glanced at Veron. She couldn't believe Veron had been helping Jaxon to fix their relationship.

“I don't want to be paired with a dishonest man. Veron, I already endured to be with him when we first met---”

“You already forgive him, don't you? I know you, Veronica. You can forgive him again, but he only used it as an excuse to help me. I don't want you to ruin your relationship with him to help me.” Veron finally uttered what he was thinking. He bit his lips, trying to hide how annoyed he was.

“I told you to inform Jaxon about it. He will agree once you finally explain why you are helping me. I know how possessive an Alpha is, but you don't need to make him---”

“Ugh, I don't do this because of you. I was hurt, okay? Do you even know how broken I was? You are so full of yourself, Veron. I want to rest. Is it okay?” She whispered. She lowered her head, trying to avoid his glance when he checked if she was telling the truth. She closed her eyes and lay on the bed. She covered her body and glanced at Veron. ”If you want to make our act perfect, it's fine with me if you will sleep beside me. There's a possibility your father has a spy in your pack.”

His mouth parted. He was full of disbelief. He swallowed and tried to calm his wolf for whispering to him to take advantage of the situation. He was sure Veronica had been doing it for his sake and Helene. He didn't like to take advantage of her after she helped him.

“What makes you think my father has a spy? I don't think so. This is my pack, and I control my troops.” He cleared his throat, trying to hide how he craved for her.

“If you want to make our plans successful, it's better if you will do what I tell you to do. Aside from that, it's better if Jaxon knows if we are sleeping in one bed. He will think I'm happy with you.” Veronica didn't mind making Veron see they were only using each other. She closed her eyes and smirked.

Veron was stunned. He finally understood they were only using each other for their gain. He nodded and turned around to hide what he had genuinely felt for her. “Yes, you're correct. I will go to my Beta for now; then, I will ask someone to bring you into my bedroom. I think that's the best option.”

He was thankful Veronica didn't notice his emotion. He made sure he wouldn't stammer. He couldn't believe Veronica quickly broke his heart without doing anything.

They were only acting, and Veronica already made sure he knew what his position was in her life.

“Okay, when will we meet your father?” She asked with curiosity. She wanted to make everything finished so fast.

“I will inform him about what happened today. I will inform Helene, too. We need to make sure that our story doesn't have any loopholes.”

“Okay, I can wait. I want him to see how great an actress I am,” she muttered.
