Jaxon was expressionless. He was only looking at Veronica with sharp eyes, but he didn't even dare to talk to Veronica. The Alpha King was used to seeing his smug expression, so he thought it was normal.
He pointed to the chair and said, “Come on! Sit with us! Let's talk about some things. My son is getting married to Veronica. I hope you don't mind and take it personally.”
Jaxon walked straight to the seat and sat on it. He acted like he didn’t hear Veronica and glanced at Helene. Veronica pursed her lips to hide what she felt when Jaxon's act worked. She didn’t exist in his life. She held Veron’s hand and gave Veron a sweet smile.
While Helene on the other side, was confused. She didn’t know what happened between Veronica and Jaxon, but she was sure it was about Veron. She gave Jaxon a flirty smirk even though she didn’t like it anymore before she embraced Jaxon as if she was so happy to be with him again.
“Jaxon, you surprise me.” she started, acting not to see how Veronica arched her brow to her. She knew Veronica was only working, but she needed to work, too.
“Your father invited me here. He mentioned Veronica and Veron have a sudden announcement, and I’m excited to hear it.” Jaxon replied. He shrugged his shoulder and acted like he wasn’t affected at all.
“Then, I’m sure you are not mad at Veronica, especially when she chose my son, right? Why don’t you think about your mating ceremony with my daughter? She loves you so much, and you are her first love.” The Alpha King faked his smile and laughed. He signaled the Omegas to serve the food he had let them prepare for them. It was like a banquet, and the Alpha King celebrated Veron's accomplishment.
“I will think about it, Alpha. I don’t think that getting mated with your daughter is the key to finally—”
“Jaxon, Veronica is not with you anymore. You are only attached to her because of the mate bond, but once you break the mate bond, you will finally see my daughter. You will realize that she’s the only woman for you!”
Jaxon’s lips became a thin line. He disliked that someone kept ordering him to do what he wanted. He pursed his lips before he placed his hand on the table. “We rejected each other, Your Majesty, but it’s still the same. It’s Veronica who rejected me first.”
The Alpha King was shocked when he heard it. He could not believe that Veronica had rejected Alpha Jaxon, who was respected and wanted by any unmated shewolves. He was pleased to hear that Veronica already removed Jaxon as her mate.
“Oh! I’m sorry to hear that,” he lied, paused, and gave Jaxon an empathetic gaze before he continued, “We can’t force our mate to accept us. We have the decision to accept them or not. I hope you will respect what your mate wants.”
“Ex-mate.” Jaxon corrected the Alpha King, which made the Alpha King laugh so hard. He even shook his head while he was touching his tummy.
“Y-Yeah, ex-mate, to be exact,” Veronica uttered what Jaxon had said. She rolled her eyes to him and clutched Veron’s arms to make Veron do something sweet to him. Veron chuckled and grabbed her nape to kiss her on her lips, which made Jaxon’s face turn dark.
“Oh! I think my son is telling the truth. He won’t kiss someone who is not his girlfriend.” the Alpha King commented, but he tried to hide his anger from Veron. He didn’t know why he seemed obsessed with Veronica now, even though Veronica was like his daughter anymore. Since he saw what Veronica looked like at his party, he couldn’t stop thinking about her anymore. Thinking how stunning Veronica was at that time made him think she could be his incredible Luna beside him. Anyone could respect Veronica, and a little helped to get his allies back that Jaxon had stolen from him.
Even though it seemed unnatural, he grinned and added, “Veron, give importance to her. You are finally welcome to my family, Veronica!”
“Veronica, you don’t mind if Jaxon will be your brother-in-law, right?” Helene talked.
“I don’t mind. We finally free each other. I don’t want Veron to think I’m bitter if you two secretly date.” she quickly responded. She didn’t mind, but her would mind at all. Her wolf might be heartbroken that Jaxon had deceived them again, but she knew her wolf wasn’t in a good mood because of the mate bond.
“Let’s eat! It’s better if we start planning everything while we are eating.” The Alpha King suggested. Their meal was silent, and Veron swallowed when he saw how Jaxon gave him a death stare. He knew Jaxon wanted to kill him, but he was thankful that Jaxon was wise to know that Veronica might be planning against his father. Veronica enjoyed the food; she kept giving Veron a dish sweetly.
“What are you planning?” Veron asked when they reached his pack. They didn’t stay in the Alpha King’s pack even though his father wanted them to stay there. He didn’t trust his father enough and was sure he might have plans to make Veronica stay in his pack. It was his first time seeing his father act that way.
He knew how dirty his father was, especially his sins, whenever a woman wanted to be with him. His father used to be like that. Sometimes, he was, too. However, he stopped sleeping with another woman, especially if it wasn’t his mate.
What he had done to Veronica was out of desperation. He only did that to make Veronica stay with him because of Helene. Veronica was lying in the, and she had more profound thoughts.
“I don’t think your father is fine with our mating ceremony. I’m sure he has other plans.” Veronica answered.
“Then… do you want to flirt with him? Acting like a cheater?”
“I don’t need to do that. I can act like I overlook his actions towards me, Alpha Veron. I’m still thinking about what we must do to make sure we will make him believe we are serious about this mating ceremony.”
“We are serious. Do you want me to do something he might think we are?”
“What is it?”
“We can sleep with each other, but it's not real.”
Veronica scowled. She knew that Veron might be stopping himself not to take her because of their deal, but if they acted like they might fucking each other, what would happen next? She bit her lips. She couldn’t decide what to do to make sure the Alpha King would believe them.
“We might sleep with each other, but it doesn’t mean that he might think we are having a real relationship. Aside from that, I think he has a spy in your pack.”
Veron frowned. He disliked hearing what Veronica had said because if it was true, then he wasn’t a good Alpha who managed his pack well. He was sure his members were more loyal to him than his father.
“Why do you say that? I want to know what makes you think about it.”
“It’s us who only know what we will going to do. It’s only your pack who knows that I’m staying with you. Your father invited Jaxon to our meal even though he doesn’t know what we are planning.”
“Maybe he only concluded it.” Veron was still giving his pack members the benefit of the doubt. He shrugged his shoulders and moved closer to Veronica. “I want a deeper reason why you think there’s a rat here.”
“I always caught your Beta secretly watching us from afar. At first, I didn’t know what I was going to say. He only asked if I was sleeping with you before visiting your father. He’s familiar.”
“Maybe you see him at the party. He’s always with me. Well, I told him I had a sudden announcement that I needed to tell my father about our relationship. He asked me about Jaxon, and I thought he was only concerned about me. I have known him since he was a child and trusted him so much.”
Veronica nodded. She wondered what was the other way to know if Veron’s Beta was a spy. She grinned at him before she said, “Let’s see if he’s not the traitor in your pack.”
Veron didn’t say anything but was curious what Veronica would do to know the truth. All he could do was to support her silently.

Veronica rushed to the kitchen sink while Albert, Veron’s Beta, watched her. He was eating his meal when she vomited. She massaged her forehead and sat on the chair weakly.
“Do you eat some rotten dish? Are you okay?” Albert asked.
Veronica nodded and gave Albert a look. “I’m not fine. I don’t want to eat.”
“Are you pregnant?” Albert couldn’t stop himself from asking again.
