Chapter Game on

Melissa's POV.

I came to a halt, my eyes fixed on Nelson who had a displeased look on his face. Gently, his gaze left me and landed on Conri who I glanced at and returned my gaze to Nelson.

He looked like a mess.

His hair was rumpled and looked like he just got out of the bed.

Gently, I glanced at his clothes, they looked just the same way his hair does and just with the direction he was coming from, it was clear that he wasn't returning from the chamber.

" Alpha '' I heard Conri mutter as the silence between the three of us felt very awkward.

He glanced at me with a smile on his face, "We will talk better tomorrow"

I looked at him, nodded, glanced at Nelson and walked away leaving the two men together.

What was that for?

Why did Nelson have such a look in his eyes the moment he sighted I and Conri. The possessive look in his eyes was so soul piercing that I just couldn't stare back at him for more than a minute.

Not wanting to border myself with anything, I got into the chamber, had a warm bath, got dressed in my night wear and laid on the bed waiting patiently till I fell asleep.

Ever since my encounter with the woman at the river, I have never seen her but at the same time, my mind couldn't stop going back to the woman who attacked me.

It felt so real

Yes, it was real!

The woman at the lake stated that the attack was real and I won the woman in some way although I just couldn't wrap my head around it.

Suddenly, the words of the woman came crawling into me.

"My mother," I muttered, staring deeply at the ceiling before me.

I remember the woman staring that my mother had cost her so much pain.

Growing up, I never got to see my mother. My father told me that my mother died when giving birth to me. I don't even know what it is to grow up with a mother not to think of knowing how my mother looks.

Although I was deeply hurt by this and grew up being maltreated by Sophia's mom, I didn't really care because father was there all the time and now that I have to see him just to get my answers, I have to do it sooner.

The door of the chamber opened, I averted my gaze only to find Nelson walking in. He completely ignored me which I was grateful for as all I wanted was to be alone tonight.

I watched him undress the upper part of his body, although I am already used to seeing how big his body is. At that moment, I didn't care. He didn't even look at me, picked up a towel and walked into the bathroom.

The ray of sunlight woke me up. Slowly, I got up and yawned loudly.

"Good that you are awake, we need to go"

Startled by the voice, I turned to the direction of the bed only to find Nelson fully dressed in a way that I have only seen him once, the day we got married. He looked so handsome and as I watched the maid gently brush his hair, a frown appeared on my face as I wondered what exactly was going on.

"What's happening?" I asked.

"You ask too many questions Melissa, we have to leave right now" he replied, not turning to look at me.

The maid bowed and exited the room leaving the both of us together.

"You can't just tell me to get up and get dress for something I have no knowledge of"

Nelson let out a deep sigh, "It's too early for your stubbornness Melissa and clearly, I don't have time for that. We have guests in the royal house so you must get dressed, we don't need to keep our guests waiting"

Surprised, ever since my arrival here, this is the first time I am informed of guests who need our attention.

"Guests?"

Nelson got to his feet, at that point, I couldn't deny how daring and handsome he looked. His deep blue eyes sparkled in delight knocking my breath out of me.

I was mesmerized by his look but I tried my best to control it and avoid him seeing me drooling like an idiot.

"Yes, guests. Guests from neighboring packs. They will be arriving very soon so you have to get dressed, look beautiful and I will return for you in a few minutes" Saying this, Nelson walked out of the room, closing the door behind him.

Still wondering what's happening, the door of the chamber opened. I was expecting to see Nelson but Patricia walked in.

"I have to get you prepared ma'am" she noted with a slight bow.

Not wanting to stress the issue anymore, I got out of the bed and within minutes, I was fully ready and I must say, the moment I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I knew that I was indeed beautiful.

"You look so gorgeous Ma'am" Patricia noted as she couldn't stop smiling.

I wore a yellow dress which flowed gently to the ground, my hair was neatly brushed down to my waist region and designed with beautiful silver hair clips that added a princess look on me. Patricia applied little makeup on me which made me look so good that I couldn't stop admiring myself.

"You did the magic yourself Patricia, thank you" I replied with a replenished smile.

"Do I look ready enough?" I asked not wanting to appear like a fool in front of the guests.

"You look more than ready Ma'am, you look so beautiful" She chipped in and I couldn't help but smile.

The door of the chamber opened, I knew it's no one else but Nelson so I got on my feet and turned to the direction of the door.

As soon as he laid his eyes on me, I could see a daring shock plastered on his . For a moment, it appeared like he was in a state of disbelief, his eyes widened in Surprise as he couldn't get his gaze off me, his expression was easy to read as that of an open book.

"I am ready," I muttered, breaking the silence.

Seeing the awkwardness between us, Patricia excised herself and walked out of the room leaving Nelson who looked like he just saw a ghost not saying anything to my words.

"Will you just stand there and stare at me?" I asked, stating the exact same words he asked me the first night in here, the night I couldn't get my eyes off his abs.

"Oh.." he muttered, feeling embarrassed. He quickly looked away as his eyes flickered, his eyes searching for the right words to say.

I laughed.

"I look good don't I?" I teased, his uncomfortable state really pleased me in a way I couldn't explain.

"We need to leave now," he said, totally ignoring my question. Nelson held the door knob and was about to leave.

"Will you leave without me next to your side? I thought the game is on so we need to really act like we are in love so that Tinox won't realize that we are fooling him" I said with a raised brow

Hearing my words,Nelson turned to me. At first, he appeared like he was about to attack my words. He shook his head, still unable to say a word.

"Alright" he muttered and walked towards me standing side by side, "Let's go" he said but I didn't move.

"I said we should leave Melissa, our guests are here already, it isn't nice if we keep them waiting along with Tinox" he noted but still, the look of admiration in his eyes was greatly stocked.

"I am sorry but we aren't leaving" I announced.

A surprise but confused look appeared on his face, "We aren't leaving? Why?"

"Yes Nelson, we can't leave because you are a terrible actor."

"I am?"

"Yes you are. Do you think that you will be able to convince Tinox without being so loving? You need to hold my hand, I don't know if that is way too difficult for you to do" I teased watching him look very uncomfortable this time.

Nelson didn't look pleased with this at all but I didn't care. I was really enjoying the whole show in a way I couldn't describe, it pays a lot to see him so sensitive which means that I am definitely going to win by the end of this game.

Without saying a word, Nelson took my hands and wrapped his fingers around mine. He turned to me, our eyes locked together and I could feel shiver run through my spine in a way I have never felt before.

"I will prove to you that indeed, I am a terrible actor" he whispered as his lips stretched into a deadly smirk.

At that moment, I knew that I had touched the lion's tail and there was no escape for me. I gulped down really hard, my eyes not daring to leave him and without waiting, Nelson walked out of the chamber along with me, his hands not trying to leave mine.

We walked down the hallway, the look on the face of the maids who walked past us was so exceptional that I began to think that maybe Patricia made me look really sophisticated.

I glanced at Nelson and slowly wrapped his hand around mine. To my surprise, he had a smile on his face.

Is this a smile from the act or just another different kind of smile, I just couldn't tell.

Soon, we got closer to the hall, this time, I saw two guards standing next to it and as soon as they sighted I and Nelson, they bowed in respect and quickly opened the door leading I and Nelson into the hall filled with new faces I have never come across to.
