Chapter 76

Diana stood up but was frozen in her spot. She could endure being attacked by so many soldiers but not when her son was with her. She slowly freed herself from her frozen state and took a deep breath.

"Governor Eugene." She called with a small smile. "How delightful it is to see you."

"Save the faux pleasantries, Diana." Eugene refuted. "I heard about how you turned on us just because your man was shot."

There were gasps and murmuring around. Everyone was wondering who the man was. Theodore in particular was confused. The only person that was shot was Calhoun. Who else could have been her man?

"I don't understand, what's going on?" Theodore asked.

Eugene glanced at him from the corner of his eyes. "Ah, lover wolf." He mocked.

"Ask the woman you love. Perhaps she can answer your question better."

Theodore came out from the crowd and tried to reach out to Diana. She remained in the same position, not moving at all. Her eyes followed every of Theodore's movements.

"Diana, what is he talking about?" He asked softly. "Who is the man?"

Diana smirked. "Why should I answer you, Theodore?"

Theodore sighed. "You cannot forgive me for making one mistake?

Diana chuckled. "Theo, you are the least of my problems now. I don't think you have made it to the list of my problems. Forgive you? For letting Yolanda caress you? I don't care about all that."

"What I care about is that Eugene has some disgusted grudge against my people and he wants to wipe them out. You all are simply tools in his hands and if you want to live, I will implore you to find your way home. Get out of this place."

"However, if you feel like you can fight against the Wisteria warriors and survive, if you feel like because Eugene is behind you, you stand a chance against the wolves, then I will also stop at nothing to deal with you."

"Even if it means dying," Diana swore.

"Diana shut up! You will not die, you will not deal with anyone!" Theodore scolded. "This is all a prank right?"

"Such a fool." Eugene mocked. "Even when the truth is playing before you live, you still wish to accept it as a joke."

Theodore shook his head. He grabbed Diana's arms and shook her but she pushed him away from her. She crouched down to pick up her baby and she heard the sound of a gun being cocked. She paused again. Slowly, she raised her head to find Eugene pointing a gun at Coco's head. Her heart began to hammer in her chest.

Eugene smirked and then chuckled. "One simple misstep and he's gone."

"Eugene, please," Theodore begged. "Don't do this to her please."

"She is a traitor and you dare to say we should not harm her?" Hal yelled.

"Hal," Diana called softly. "I thought you died."

Hal scoffed. "Died? The only one who's gonna be doing it, are you? And if anybody else, it would be your baby and his father."

Diana laughed. She closed her eyes for a few seconds and when she opened them, the color in them changed. Her eyes turned green. "You want to blow my baby's brains out? You have to try with me first."

Before Eugene could shoot, she quickly grabbed Coco and cuddled him to her chest. Eugene scowled when he noticed that she had somehow outwitted him. Yet, he didn't relent. All he wanted was to scare her so that he could use her to get Calhoun. It would be a greater defeat if Diana betrayed him.

Diana turned, backing the group that was there to kill her. She took a small cloth and made a strap that was wide enough to hold Coco and long enough to tie around her shoulder and back, firmly. When she was done, she grabbed her jacket and wore it over him, and zipped it up.

"Going somewhere?" Eugene asked. Soon as he opened his mouth to speak, he heard the sizzling sound of arrows being shot and cutting through the wind. Before he could realize where it came from, he heard the soft groans of his soldiers as they fell to the ground, dead. Slowly, he turned. Many soldiers had dropped dead and he was surrounded mostly by dead bodies.

Frowning, he stepped out to check it out. Two arrows whooshed passed him and he dodged them. He walked further in the direction of the arrows and the snowstorm was just rising again. After watching for a while, the arrows stopped and so did the storm. Were they controlling it?

The weather cleared up and he saw the warriors standing before him with their bows and arrows, their swords rested in its sheath, and yet their jackets had all types of daggers.

He looked around him and his army was dead. His eyes turned red. Diana's footsteps in the snow were heard and he turned to glare at her, especially when he saw the smirk on her face.

"You did this?" He asked.

Diana ignored him as she continued walking. She had walked to where he was then a few feet away from him before she stopped. She turned back to him, smirking even more wickedly.

"Eugene." Diana began. "Need I remind you that you were the one who started this? Need I?"

Eugene gritted his teeth in a feeble attempt to prevent his unrestrained anger from being on full display. Diana could make out the sound of him grinding his teeth together.

"I guess not. Let me guess, you already knew everything. You knew who I was, you had planned everything from the start. From the second I stepped my feet on the Fraco soil, you could already tell who had entered."

"You're more than what you claim, Eugene," Diana stated. "But you forgot one part of your plan. And that is that regardless of what one does to another if there is love then there is always a chance of reuniting lovers."

"You skipped that part and I wasn't going to remind you. Jasyn, Theodore, Yolanda and now Hal, they're all pawns in the big game. And rather than letting myself become a pawn as well, I thought of becoming the queen instead."

"Why be a pawn when I can be a rook, knight, bishop, queen-"

"This is not a chess game, Diana!" Eugene growled. His eyes began to glow but rather than red or green which was accustomed to the wolves, they glowed a bright purple. Diana was confused. What exactly was Eugene? Was he a descendant of the sorcerers?

"You don't know what you are up against." He said. "Join my army and save your son. Don't, be my enemy, Diana. You don't want to."

"Don't want to? Who says I don't want to?" She asked, chuckling. "Please, Governor Eugene, make me thy enemy. The enemy of thine whom you will want to kill on spot."

Eugene laughed. "Then so be it."

He raised his hands and a cloud of fog covered the ground. The fog was so thick that the warriors began to unleash their weapons just in case an attack came.

Their only issue was that they couldn't even see each other, not to mention one another. Any swing could result in the death of their fellow warrior.

Diana was surrounded by that cloud and she felt blinded. All she could see was white, all around her. Yet somehow she could hear what was happening so she could guess from what she was hearing.

"Verbis meis te voco, ut a mortuis resurgas, ut pro me pugnem, quidquid in corde meo Posco, hot pages. Culpae mortem culture."

Eugene muttered some words in an ancient language and Diana felt a surge of power encompass her and the dead Fraco soldiers began to rise. After a long time, the clouds dissipated quickly and their visions were restored. Diana looked around her. The Wisteria warriors were behind her and the dead Fraco soldiers who had been resurrected were before her.

They didn't look human anymore. Their eyes looked darker and more rabid, with purple irises. Their teeth looked jagged and some of them were bigger.

"The match has been unfair for the first three days, let's see how much you werewolves can take," Eugene announced. "Soldiers, attack!"

Calhoun didn't need to tell his warriors to fight back, they already knew what to do and they lunged forward to kill everyone against Eugene. Eugene stood, watching his soldiers fight for him. He held a wicked smile on his face.

Diana faced off against a few of them. She wanted to know what kind of creatures they were. While fighting, she noticed that they had one target and it was to hit her son whom she hid carefully in her clothes. Diana however had seen through their plans and fought hard, not giving them any chance to get close enough to even strike a hit.

The Wisteria warriors tried fighting as humans but couldn't, they all began to morph into their werewolf forms one after the other. Since they were bigger, they were able to intimidate the Fraco soldiers.

The soldiers were initially taken aback by the transformation and paused in their attacks. This gave the Wisteria soldiers an upper hand as they began to tear these creatures apart. The scary thing was that if they died, their bodies would begin to grow into other bodies. So if they were torn into four, they would automatically produce four times their previous self.

This was a huge challenge for Diana and she decided to leave the battle and find Calhoun. He was supposed to be there with him on the battlefield. She was only here, fighting against Eugene, risking the life of herself and her baby, all because of him.

While she was nearing the entrance of the castle, she felt a force push her back so hard that it sent her flying back by a few feet. Diana was careful not to land in any way that could potentially affect the baby. She managed to perform a safe landing and turned to see what it was that came for her. None other than Eugene.

The man stood straight, staring at her. "Going somewhere?"

"Wherever I go is none of your business," Diana replied harshly. She took out her sword from its sheath.

"Come on, Diana. A sword? What do you take me for?"

"Granted," Diana replied. "I take you for granted."

Eugene frowned. He raised his hand and a cloud of snow wrapped around Diana, pushing her backward. Diana dragged her feet on the ground rather than allow herself to be taken so easily. Eugene laughed.

"You also do not think of me as a worthy opponent for you." Diana scolded.

"Worthy opponent? I don't even see you as an opponent, to begin with. You're just a lost girl whose mother failed to train the right way."

"Speaking about a dead woman is tantamount to cursing yourself, oh wait. You're already cursed." Diana taunted.

Eugene hated that. As much as he would never admit to being cursed, he couldn't deny the fact that a lot of things about him depended on Calhoun and that was why he wanted him out of the picture. Eugene took out a batter and struck Diana with it. She dodged it, protecting her baby in the process.

Eugene kept swinging his club, fighting everyone as well. Until he felt a different charge in the atmosphere. He raised his head and began to look around him.

He finally spotted Calhoun and from the way Calhoun looked, he knew that Calhoun was also searching for someone on the battlefield. Who could Calhoun be searching for? He wondered and then his eyes met Diana's. He smiled.

Eugene raced to where she was and while she was focused on fighting someone else, he raised his sword high and brought it down with a swoosh.
