Chapter 58

Her nose caught the smell of blood shortly afterwards and she sprang to her feet.

"Detective?" She called and got no answer. She heard something dripping and the smell was getting stronger.

"Detective, where are you?"

Did something happen to him?

"You were looking for me?"

Her head whipped round to see him behind her, a lit cigarette in his fingers.

She covered her nose. "Oh...you were smoking."

He took a drag of his cigarette. "The smell is quite strong. This is the smell of a lonely detective, which doesn't need any perfume... How's it? Can you smell the anguish of a detective?"

She shook her head. "I smell suffocation."

She'd probably smelled wrong. Was she also having issues with her sense of smell?

"It wasn't very polite of me, Zuriña." He said as he put out his cigarette. "Give me your hand for a moment."

She tilted her head. "My hand?"

"Yeah, just give it."

"What's wrong with my hand?" She asked as she gave him her hand.

"There's something I want to say." He turned her hand to reveal her injured fist. "I saw your fist got injured a while ago."

"It healed quickly. Something wrong with that?"

"That's the problem. Wounds don't appear when I fight though. Look at my hand." He said and she watched him clench his fist.

"A fist should be clenched like this and if you do this, the damages increases and you won't get hurt, but if you do it like this..."He said, clenching a fist, one which she did frequently. "...you'll get hurt."

She looked down at her hand."That's right. After fighting, my fists hurt the most."

"No matter how strong you are physically, you don't have the skills to support it. So you might have used one out of ten of your maximum potential, so today, I'll teach you how to maximize your powers."

She wanted to laugh. "Are you kidding? There's no need for me to learn this stuff. I can manage by myself."

He looked weak these past few days too.She couldn't bother him.

"You have to learn, that way you won't get hurt."

His expression was a sad one. Was he hiding something from her.

"So even if it's just a little, you have to learn."

"But..."

She found herself learning almost the next minute.

"Look at me closely..."He was saying as she locked eyes with him.

"Push harder, you have to accurately hit the vital point..." He told her, avoiding her hit when it came.

"Don't take your eyes off the target..."

"Accurately hit..." She said and sent a fast hit to his jaw, one which he didn't avoid and it reported back with a loud crack.

"Oops...Are you okay?" She asked, walking over to him to check the damage.

"To a professional, this is nothing."

She arched her brow."I think I heard your jaws break."

"You have sharp ears." He smiled.

They didn't stop until two hours later and Zuriña was glad she'd taken lessons.

"How is it? Doable?" He asked.

"It's tiring. To think that you remember all the moves, it's amazing. I don't know if I did well...I didn't know there were some many vital points in the body."She said as she looked down to hers "There's a point here...there..." She suddenly raised her head. "But why are you suddenly teaching me this?"

He sighed."Because in the future, there may be times you need to fight alone, right?"

What was he talking about?

"Why would I? When you're here?"

He nodded. "Well, it's true. If you have someone like me, you don't need to use your powers. You can taste your arms and legs while I catch all the vampires."

She shook her head. "Sometimes, I think I can't compliment you."

"Hey, a compliment makes even a whale dance more,so praise me more."

She stood to stretch. The day had been a tiring one.

"Now can we sleep? Even though I'm a vampire, we've been moving all day. It's tiring."

She said.

"Sure."

She was about to head in when her nose caught the smell of blood again, and she couldn't seem to shake it off.

"Detective, go in first. I need to use the restroom."

"Alright."

She kept sniffing as she walked, following the odour. Was one of Yiannais' minions lurking around there? She wondered.

She finally got to where the odour was coming from and she frowned. It was just a heap of leaves.

She sighed and was about to head back when a thought struck her.

There was no blood on the leaves, what if it was coming from under it?

She went back to scatter the heap only to reveal fresh blood hidden under it. So she hadn't smelled wrong.

Her mind shifted back to the detective. He'd never smoked in front of her.

Did he do that to cover the smell of blood?

"...I only have half a year left..." She recalled he'd said that on the rooftop and she buried he r mouth in her palms.

"Oh my God..."

She'd been so busy fighting with the angels of death that she'd forgotten about it.

What should she do?

An idea struck her and she hurried back to the church building.

Kaiwanwas still outside when she returned and he raised his head to look at her.

"You're back."

"Why aren't you sleeping?" She asked.

"I was waiting for you."

"I saw it.That blood...It's yours, right?" She asked.

"You saw it? I covered it up, but I guess I can't trick your nose. I've been exhausted these days so I have a nosebleed..."

"Detective..." She called as she lowered the neck of her blouse, exposing her bare neck.

"Zuriña, what are you doing?" He asked, startled.

"Drink my blood..."
