Vael didn't return back until after midnight and he was about to walk in through the back door when Zuriña and Kaiwan walked up to him disappointed looks on their faces.
"We barely found you." Zuriña said.
"Where were you and what were you doing Vael?"
"No matter how we see it, it's strange.Tell us where you've been." Kaiwan said.
He scoffed. "What's this? Since when have you been following me?...How did you know?"
"I hacked your phone earlier."
"Just when..."
"But I'll say your speed made it not to function for a while."
Vael was dumbfounded. "What are you talking about? I was just around..."
"If you think of who will be at loss when people start doubting the vaccine. The answer is simple. Don't you think your tail has been gone for too long? And I decided I became sure of it when I saw you covered in blood. The one who did all these dirty things was you. Yiannais' immediate right hand man."
"In the end, it became like this.So the things you guys wanna say..." Vael was saying as he snuck out playing cards, which got on fire immediately. "...is something like this?"
So he was prepared, Zuriña thought to herself.
"Before that...we want to see something."
"What?"
"The thing I'm really curious about..." Zuriña drawled as she slowly walked over to the entrance of the back door. "...is this."
The fire on his cards quenched immediately. "You can't."
The smell of fire coming from inside was too strong. That was where he'd been burning the bodies.
She opened the door before he could stop her and was surprised to see Mrs Williams wiping blood off her face.
"Who are you guys?" She asked.
"Ah..." Wasn't that the person on the broadcast a while ago? Wasn't she dead?
Her eyes scanned round the room and was surprised to see that much people in the room. Were they...the missing people?
"Don't tell me you've been hiding all these people." She said as he and Kaiwan walked in, closing the door behind them.
"I even hid them since they'd be troublesome if they were found out...It's as you see." He said.
"What happened?" Kaiwan asked and Vael sighed.
"I had cut my arm while I'd pretended to thrust it through the spokeswoman and I'd told her to lay dead, as vampires were lurking behind shadows. That's how I saved everyone here. Do you get the picture? Now, get out."
Kaiwan shook his head. "I don't really get you. Are you playing hard to get?"
"Why would I with someone like you?"
Zuriña turned to him. "Okay, Vael. We get the situation. The thing I'm really curious about, is why do you let these people live?"
"You guys may have noticed, but Yiannais has been using the angels of death as a tool to awaken your power. And after awakening, he never hesitated to kill those that are of no use to him...If so, my future is predicable. He'll use me all he wants and then throw me away." He looked round. "Then these people are my insurance, I'll let them free when he tries to kill me. Do you get it now?"
"Insurance? You're taking these people as hostage..."
"But compared to that, I just hate being stained by human blood." He said as he turned to walk towards his area of the building.
"What's with him? Acting cool all of a sudden?" Kaiwan muttered and she sighed as she followed him.
"What will you do if Yiannais finds out about this?"
"Well, there'll be a way."
"You have interesting animals though."
"I know, right? They look scary as hell but they're cute though. I don't think purple hair taught them that though." He smiled.
Daniel woofed on sighting her and made to stretch out his paw when Vael stopped him
"Daniel, even if you like her that much, you can't do that to a pureblood. You'll tear her to death."
"He wanted to play?" She asked and he turned to do something.
She'd thought he was just a cold person who used humans as tools, but not anymore. He looked quite warm.
The crows in the room suddenly started flying around, sending all three heads to look up at them.
"What's wrong with them?" She asked.
"I don't know."He replied.
"Vael."
"What is it?"
"I have something to tell you."
"What? Are you going to joke about my physique again?"
"No. I'm not. Listen carefully." Kaiwan said and she turned to him.
"Then don't waste my time and say it."
"Something's off. We're not the only ones who knows that the tail has gotten way too long."
The detective looked serious than usual.
"Since we don't know what will happen, let's do something." He said as he stepped closer to Vael.
"What's that?"
Vael returned to his room, unbuttoning his shirt as he made to walk to the bathroom for a shower when someone knocked.
"Vael, I want to talk about something."
He rolled his eyes as he walked over to the door. "What's wrong? What do you want to talk about again?"
His eyes widened and he swallowed on seeing it wasn't Kaiwan but Yiannais.
"Master." He stepped aside with a bow and Yiannais walked in. "Was someone supposed to come?"
"It's not like that."
He raised his head to see Yiannais walking over to sit on one of the sofas .
"I was around here so I decided to come in and check on your task."
"I see. I'd have come out to see you at the door if you'd told me earlier. I'll get you a drink." He said, walking over to fetch a bottle from his blood stash.
Rivulets of sweat ran down his face and his hands trembled as he poured out a glass.
Calm down, he told himself. He'd been reporting to him all these while but it was the first time Yiannais came to listen to the report.
Perhaps, was Yiannais was suspecting him?
How much did he know? He had to find out first.
"Seeing that blood...seems like you did a good job. I came early."
"It's fine." He replied as he walked over to hand him a glass.
"This is rather weird...What's this smell?"
"Is there something wrong? I'll get you a new one." He said, reaching out to receive the glass when Yiannais grabbed his arm, transfixing him on the spot.
"No. I think it came from here." He said and looked at his arm. "If you killed a human, why then do you smell like vampire blood?"
He swallowed hard. He was screwed. "That's impossible...How can I smell like vampire blood?"
"Of course. It's not accurate with the smell."
"Yes." He replied, thinking Yiannais was going to let him go, but he dropped his glass.
"Then..." He was saying as he pulled closer. "I'll know if I definitely taste it." He said as he stuck out his tongue.
