Love was a luxury.
She didn't expect something like that to come into her life.
Eating alone, walking alone, Going to the cinema alone, she had been doing great all these time? What was she greedy for now?
It was rather difficult to believe it but that was what she had believed in her entire life.
Until that incident at school.
"Excuse me." Someone called from behind her as she turned to leave and she panicked, knowing she was done for if she was forced to do the test.
The person grabbed her and her head whirled round to see it was Kaiwan. "Just start walking." He said and pulled her with him as he went.
Two members of the council suddenly materialized in front of them with a frown on their face."Have you done the test to prove you're not a vampire?" One asked
"We'll just cut you lightly with a scalpel. It'll just be enough to draw blood. The cut will be treated right away." The other explained and Kaiwan tried to drag her out of the scene when two other members obstructed them.
"It looks like you're trying to avoid the test. So you better do it if you have nothing to hide."
"It isn't right for you to suspect me without a proper reason. You can't force me do something like this against my will." Zuriña blurted.
"How can you say that... when you know what happened at school?" The vice president asked.
"I know... what happened..."She was saying when one of them grabbed her other hand.
"Then do it."
She broke into a cold sweat. She was screwed if she was found out. She felt her sleeve lifting and she closed her eyes. "I can't do this..."
"Huh?"
She slowly opened her eyes and was surprised to see a blood stained bandage on her arm.
"See? We already did it. Do you need more proof?" He asked as she slid down her sleeve.
"That's right...Wasn't it enough that you forced me against my will earlier? And now, you want me to do it again?" she stuttered.
This must be the bandage he used when he got hurt earlier. She thought.
"She could have gotten the bandage anywhere." The president said as he walked up to them.
"He said she already did it..."
"I wasn't able to see you do the test, so I need you to do it again." He said and her eyes widened. Was this it? How she'd get caught? She couldn't think of a way out of this.
He reached out to grab her arm when Kaiwan grabbed his and gave it a rough squeeze. "Listen, she's not on the operating table. Cutting her more than once is enough, don't you think? And by the way, it's a crime to go around using a blade on others without their will. Unless all of you want to be charged with a crime, I suggest you stop now."
"What do you think you're doing? Let go of me."He yelled.
"I understand how you feel, but let us go." Kaiwan said.
"Why would I? I don't trust either of you. We need to catch these vampires today, no matter what it takes. We're even prepared to get expelled."
"I can see you're really determined..."A smile crossed his handsome face as he slipped out his ID card. "...But I'm prepared to risk my life to catch vampires."
"A cop?" They asked, dumbfounded.
"Is this enough proof for you? Oh, and just to let you know. This student is on her way to the police station to assist in the investigation. Do you want to tag along?"
It had a big crisis for her.
She was so desperate to get out of the situation but someone who was trying to catch her was actually helping her.
Maybe he was not a bad guy. That was what she thought.
"Turn around slowly." He had said and she had slowly turned. From the corner of her eye, she had seen that he had been surprised to see her. She had been expecting him to arrest her on the spot but he had told her.
"Hit me and run."
Right before she had raced off, she had overheard him saying.
"For now, don't report it to the higher ups, I'll take care of things here. Search for men in their 20's around this place."
She had become curious. Why was this guy helping her? Was there anything he wanted from her?Why was he so kind?
The way he treated her without prejudice.
It all came back to him, just then. He had offered to walk her down but she had refused, saying she had a lot of thinking to do and he had bade her goodbye before he headed downstairs.
He had waited for a while to tidy up his office and was about to leave when a part of him told him to check if she had left.
He had been surprised to still see her sleeping there and had understood that she had no where to go, so he had taken her home.
She had seemed surprised that he was living alone and he had explained it was due to some circumstances.
"Sorry for intruding on you like this." She had sounded apologetic about it.
"Since we're on the same side now, we'll need a place to make our strategy anyway. Think of it like that." He had told her the previous night.
She had began to open up little by little.
"Detective, do you remember what happened at the restaurant?" She asked and he looked down with a smile.
"Of course, I was a bit troublesome."
"I thought you were one of Master's agents but it's a relief that you weren't." She said as she raised her head to look at him and he considered her cute for a second before he hurriedly tore his eyes away.
She already knew, by then that her feelings for him weren't just platonic.
A hiccup escaped the man's lips and they turned to see him, trembling like he was hypnotized. Kaiwan raised his arm to cover her and she was still puzzled when the man suddenly exploded.
But she couldn't dare to get close to him. All the people around her got hurt and unhappy, Her dad, her mom, Father Michael,
But still, the more she had thought about it that way and spent time with him...
A palm covered her eyes and she wanted to attack when she heard Kaiwan's voice.
"Honey, you're here. Are you done asking? I waited long in the car. I came after you because I think no one lives around here and it looks kinda creepy too."
"Riña, it's time. Do it now." He whispered.
"You're telling me to do that? I can't." She whispered in turn. They had planned she was going to divert attention to them by causing a scene.
"We don't have time to waste."
"Ho...ney."She drawled.
"Hurry."
Darn. She was just going to give it a shot anyway.
"Honey." She screamed as she jumped to wrap her bound arms around Kaiwan, who was too shocked to do a thing. "If you get hurt, I'll kill myself. I'll kill everyone here and turn this place into a bloodbath."
"A bloodbath, isn't that too harsh?" He whispered.
"If anyone lays their hands on you, I'll rip out their hearts, babe...I just can't live without you."
She became greedy little by little.
"Then detective, do you have..." she swallowed as she raised her head to look at him. "...someone you like?
"Someone I like..."His voice trailed off as he slowly lowered his head to close in on her, sending her heart on a trip to her stomach. "That's..."
She kept imagining over and over again
That she would eat with him, watch a movie with him, walk with him. She kept on imagining that kind of future.
Was it too late? She wondered as tears welled up in her eyes.
Even if it was too late, she hoped the detective could hear her one more time.
"I really...really love you so much. You have to live. Please don't die...There are so many things I still want to do with you...So please, hold on..." She cried and bit her tongue before she lowered her lips to kiss him, giving him her blood, with hopes that there could be a chance for him.
She pulled back a couple of minutes later and sniffed as she sat him up and made him lean against the wall.
"I'll be back, I promise." She whispered and pecked him on the neck before she hurried over to summon the elevator.
She curled her fist as she got in, not taking her eyes of Kaiwan even until the elevator's doors closed. She had to get the fight done with as fast as she could.
"The doors are opening..."
She stepped out of the elevator and wasn't surprised to be greeted by another unending set of vampires.
"So you made it all the way here." Levi said, stretching her long legs where she was seated at the railing.
"I'm looking forward to your annihilation on three minutes."
"You worked hard to come all the way here."
"Where is Yiannais?" She snorted.
"What did you say? You want to meet Master?" she asked as she turned to her men. "That means you'll have to fight these guys first though."
They started closing in on her, men in black suits and with red eyes which stood out in the dark. She raised her head to look up at his seated secretary who had a smirk on her face.
"Bring them on, I only need three minutes to take them down."
She chuckled as she rose. "Three minutes? Fine, three minutes it is then" Levi replied as more than a thousand men started to close in on her. "Remember, I want that bitch alive"
Zuriña's claws elongated as they started swarm around her like bees. One of the men touched her and she slapped his hand off. "Don't touch me or do you have a death wish?"
Another man grabbed her shoulder with a smile.
"Ha, kitty thinks she's got claws."
A swift punch on the face sent him crashing on the ground and it sent the others in a frenzy. "Don't say I didn't warn you" She muttered as they made to attack her.
Detective, she called silently. Please live, I'll be there soon.
"Let's finish this quickly. I have beer to drink at the river."
