A soft knock came on Coast’s door,
“Come in” he said but when the person came him his aura instantly changed.
“What are you doing here?” He asked Adeline standing in front of him with a pitiful face, he thought it was Bella and had forgotten to pay attention to the scent before letting her in.
“I just came to give you something” she said.
“I am not interested, you can take whatever you want to give me and leave. I don’t want anything from you” he spat out. Did she think he was going to accept anything from her.
“I know but it is not from me, it belongs to your mother. I have always wanted to give it back to you, her son” she said and he instantly paid keen attention hearing that it was from his mother.
She opened his hand and showed him a pendant which he took from his mother in the past, Coast could easily recognize the pendant because he had seen it on his mother’s neck several times. The pendant went missing the day she died.
“You took this from her” he said with a dark face finally figuring that the necklace had been with her all these while. He had searched for it and thought maybe his mother had lost it without giving it to him before she died or perhaps his father had taken it.
“Yes and I am sorry about that, that is why I returned it back to you. The rightful owner, I am sure that she must have wanted to give it to you” She said.
“What made you return it?” He asked not like he cared about that, all he cared was that she had returned it back to him.
“I couldn’t remain selfish and keep what was hers when her son is alive. I just thought I should give it back to you” she said but he didn’t say anything as he just kept the pendant on the table and resumed his work.
“Coast” she called his name.
“What is it again?” He answered tired of listening to her, he just wanted her out of his presence and that was why he refused to pay attention to her so that she could leave.
“I just want to say this again, I am sorry for what I did to you and your family most especially your mother. I regret all the things that I had done in the past to you guys” she apologized once again to penetrate his cold heart.
“What exactly do you regret?” He asked with his arms crossed looking at her with a stern face.
“Everything, right from the moment I stepped into your father’s life. I should have respected the fact that he had a family, a son and his mate” she stated.
“You may leave” he ordered before she could utter anymore from her lips. He just needed a breather from her so that he could think straight.
Adeline walked out quietly knowing that Coast was still mad at her and didn’t care about the apology she just gave. She had thought the pendant from his mother would soften his heart but his heart was as cold as stone.
Noon came by and Bella was in the kitchen making Lunch when Adeline walked in.
“What are we having for lunch?” She asked sitting down with a smile on her face. Bella seemed to be the only one who thinks she has changed but as for Coast he was still tough to break but she knew she would pull through eventually. He wasn’t going to stay mad at her forever.
“Rice and kimchi stew” Bella answered back.
“I love it” She said.
Bella prepared the table for three and Adeline could only guess that Coast was joining them before she was done thinking, Coast had already walked in.
“I haven’t called you yet” Bella said surprised to see him so early, she had informed him earlier that he would be called once food was ready and she was yet to do that.
“I couldn’t wait” he said taking his seat too.
Adeline looked at him but he didn’t mind, earlier this morning he didn’t want to eat her food nor be around her but now here he was sitting close to her to eat.
‘Could the pendant have worked’ she thought to herself. Could he had softened because of the pendant she gave him. If so then he was stupid for doing that, she thought to herself.
She could notice that Bella was also watching her so she formed a beautiful smile like a mother who was watching her son eat feeling happy about it. She turned towards Bella to see if she bought the act and it looked sold to her as Bella smiled back at her.
Coast just sat down quietly eating without uttering a word and once he was done he left immediately.
“I can’t hold it back, he sat down to eat with us” she began.
“I guess he is beginning to open up to you, isn’t that what you wanted” Bella answered.
“Yes, I feel so happy about it” she put up an angelic face in front of Bella. Once Bella was done eating, Adeline requested to clean up after them and offered for her to get some rest.
“Okay” Bella obliged and left.
She looked at the seat Coast sat and laughed, who knew that just a little pendant would be able to open his heart just like that.
“You really are one weak and pathetic Alpha for thinking that I have changed. Just wait until you see the things I can do” she muttered to herself happily.
Bella entered the room and found Coast already in bed holding a pendant in his hand.
“What is that?” She asked not familiar with it.
“It’s my mother’s pendant” he said.
“Have you had that for a while?” She asked again.
“No, Adeline just gave it to me” he answered still looking at it. Coast cherished the pendant so much in the past and his mother had agreed to give it to him when it was time but unfortunately she couldn’t.
“Was that the reason why you didn’t react when you saw her during Lunch” Bella asked, she had expected him to cause a scene like in the morning but he was awfully quiet and even ate with them.
“Don’t tell me that you have forgiven her because of this” she lectured him not sure if that was the reason but she didn’t expect to soften up to Adeline just because she returned what initially belonged to him.
“No, that was just a show. She gave me this pendant because she thought it would cause me to act calm with her. I gave her the show she wanted by making it look like I was okay to make her happy. I really don’t care if she returned the pendant or not. I don’t need any material thing to remember my mother, she always has a place in my heart and that would never change” he said.
“For a minute I thought you were acting soft but I am glad that you are not backing down after one gesture. I still don’t trust her and could feel that she is faking everything. Ofcourse I don’t have proof for that but I am certain that she seems fake. I can feel it in my guts” Bella said joining him in the bed. The times she was with Adeline, she could tell that all that she was doing was just an act but still she was looking for a way to prove that she was evil but found none.
“I know, I will have someone keep an eye on her while we are not watching, that person can watch her every move” he said.
“That’s s better idea” Bella agreed with him. There were things they wouldn’t be able to see because Adeline was trying to please them most especially Coast but if someone else was watching her then it would be easy to catch her.
Coast looked at the Pendant in his hands and at Bella,
“This will look good on you” he said wearing it on her neck.
“Thank you” she said with a beautiful smile as she admired it.
“Since it was your mother’s, I will be sure to cherish it and keep it safe” She added and he smiled.
“I know you will” he said hugging her tightly in his arms. They chatted a little bit about other things before they slept off.
