Scarlett
“Why didn’t she tell me this earlier?” I whispered after hearing from Amber that my mother didn’t have much time left after healing my mate. She didn’t tell me that she was weakening after healing others.
“Sasha told me that she wanted you to live happily with me, that’s why she took Asher under her Queen's command to make the potion,” Klaus replied in a low voice, taking my hands in his before adding, “I promise, my love, nothing will happen to her.”
Amber had turned her face in the opposite direction, her back facing us, since we shifted back to our human forms. She was murmuring a spell now and soon, we both were dressed and not naked anymore.
“I’m sorry but we need to hurry. I can’t let anything happen to her after seeing her condition when she was taken somewhere else by your men,” Amber disclosed, glancing between us and locking her gaze with mine.
My eyebrows shot up, my Mom didn’t look that sick when I ordered Damon to take her to the Blood Moon pack. “What do you mean?” My voice sounded more worried than I had intended to, I didn’t want to seem weak in front of her.
Although she had helped us so much, I couldn’t bring myself to trust her completely yet. And my Lycan part wouldn’t allow me to be vulnerable in front of the others, except our mate.
“Catherine didn’t look well, I’m afraid she might not make it if we didn’t reach there in time and I performed some forbidden spells to save her,” Amber replied urgently. “Please, close your eyes. I have to teleport us to the Blood Moon pack. I can answer all your queries later, I think?” She raised her brows with a questioning look, waiting for my approval.
Suppressing my lips, I nodded my approval before closing my eyes. Klaus was still holding my hands and rubbing them gently to calm me down.
“Everything will be alright, baby,” he said soothingly when I opened my eyes after hearing Amber’s instructions.
My eyes swept around my surroundings to find that I was in my house, the house where I grew up with my siblings.
“Scarlett,” Liam’s voice made me swirl my head and I found my brother standing there with surprise written all over his face.
“Liam,” I whispered his name before throwing myself at him. He caught me before I fell to the floor and hugged me tightly in his arms, running his hands on my back soothingly. I ran into his arms just like I would always do whenever I got hurt in childhood and his embrace felt like all my problems would disappear.
It was such a blessing to have Liam as my elder brother, he had always encouraged me whenever I felt bad for not being able to shift. He was my problem solver, my bodyguard, my mentor, my caretaker, and the only man whom I loved after my father. Meeting him after all those months brought tears to my eyes. I never admitted it to him but he was my role model, I wanted to become like him after growing up since my childhood.
“Will you accept me as your brother now, Your Highness?” Liam whispered in my ear, fear evident in his eyes.
Digging my nails into his shoulder slightly, I bit his shoulder lightly, making him groan in pain. “If you called me that again, I will never speak to you again. You’re my brother and you will always be my brother.”
“Who tells this sweet thing like this?” Liam cried out in pain.
“Your little monster,” I winked at him and we both broke into laughter.
My Mom’s thought came into my mind and I found her lying on the sofa in our living room, Klaus sitting beside her while Amber held one hand in hers and murmured something in a foreign language ever so lightly that it was nearly impossible to hear her.
“Don’t worry, honey. She will be alright soon,” Liam assured me, putting his hand on my shoulder as we walked closer to her.
My Mom’s wounds were healing but her face was still pale. Klaus offered me a reassuring smile, nodding his head at me.
“Your mate is quite handsome,” Liam remarked, “But I’m not sure if he deserves my sister or not from what I have heard.”
His hand wrapped around me protectively, his aura changing to a furious one as his eyes met Klaus’s. For the very first time, I saw fear in my mate’s eyes as he swallowed hard, offering his hand to Liam for a handshake which was declined by my brother who gave him just a hard stare.
“Liam,” I pouted. “Don’t be hard on him. He loves me.”
He let out a sardonic chuckle. “You don’t know men, Letty. They are so selfish and fucking bastard, they love to play with innocent girls’ hearts. Especially, Alphas. They are fucking fuckboys and playboys. Don’t expect me to approve of this asshole just because he is your mate. He will have to prove his worth to me, he will have to prove that he deserves you.”
My jaw dropped at his words. He didn’t call my cocky mate an asshole on his face, did he?
Klaus’s jaw clenched, the muscle in his jaw worked as he balled his fists, looking at me.
‘I swear, hadn’t he been your brother, I would have punched his pretty face,’ he growled through the link.
“Aaaaaaah,” Amber’s scream made us look at her who was holding her head in her hands, sitting on the floor.
“Amber,” I held her in my arms before her head would hit the floor. “Amber… Amber…” I tapped her face lightly to wake her up as she was about to pass out.
Her eyes opened slightly and she peeked at me through half-closed eyes. “I saved her,” she smiled at me before closing her eyes.
“Amber,” a scream left from my lips. “You have to live, Amber. You can’t die just yet.” Tears welled up in my eyes when I felt her breathing slowing down.
“Scarlett,” My Mom called my name as soon as she opened her eyes.
“Amber,” a strange voice reverberated in the living room and all of us looked at a lady whose red eyes were glowering at Amber. Her hands were shivering in anger and pain as she looked between my mother and Amber.
Who the fuck was she? And how did she come in?
“Leave my daughter,” she demanded, throwing daggers at me.
My mother stood up and came to my side. “She is my daughter, Layla. I assure you that she will never force any witch to use that forbidden spell.”
“She is my daughter, Catherine,” Layla roared furiously, stepping toward Amber and drawing a circle around her. “I will figure that shit out later but for now, I will protect my daughter. She is my first priority.”
I doubted that Amber was her first priority because Harold had told her that her mother was living happily with her other family.
No one uttered a single word because all of us wanted to see Amber well and safe so we let Layla do whatever she was doing with her magic, spells, and candles. A fire soon swirled around Amber’s body and I noticed her pinky finger moving as Layla forced all of her powers her daughter’s way.
Amber slowly opened her eyes and looked at Layla quizzically. “Mom?”
“Yes, sweetheart. Your Mom has come for you,” Layla said, breaking into tears and dragging Amber in her embrace. They both cried in each other’s arms for a while as Layla patted her hair gently.
“I knew that you would come to save me,” Amber said in a low voice. “Why did you leave me, Mom?”
“I didn’t leave you, honey. Your father snatched you from me and I couldn’t come in any other packs because of the treaty but how could you use that forbidden spell and put your life in danger, my child?” Layla murmured longingly, showering kisses all over Amber’s face.
“My instincts allowed me to use that spell. It felt like a natural thing for me to do,” Amber replied and looked around to find my Mom, she sighed in relief after finding my mother safe.
Layla smiled gently, looking between my mom and her daughter. “Even my daughter’s blood recognized our friendship, Catherine.”
My mom forced a smile on her face, feeling guilty for not knowing Amber’s true identity. “I’m sorry, Layla. I didn’t recognize your daughter. You saved my daughter and your daughter saved me. I don’t know how I will be able to ever repay you.”
“No, Catherine. I’m forever in your debt for giving me my daughter back. She is the witch princess, that’s the reason she can survive after using the spell which is forbidden by high witches,” Layla said politely, smiling at my mother.
“My daughter is the Lycan Queen now. I wish to renegotiate the terms of the treaty,” Mom said, glancing at me as if asking for my approval. I smiled and nodded my head. Of course, I would honor her wish.
“Thanks, Klaus. Because of you, I could meet my mother,” Amber said to my mate who wished her all the best for her new life.
“I’m sorry, Scarlett, for putting you through so much pain. Thank you so much for showing me the power of a true mate bond,” she said to me and I hugged her in response.
“I will pray to the Goddess for giving you the best mate, Amber. You’re so kind. I’m sorry for misjudging you,” I said, pulling her back and looking into her eyes.
She blushed, stealing a glance at Liam who looked away. “The Goddess listens to the pure souls immediately.”
I cleared my throat, casting a suspicious look at both of them. Before I could say anything, Mom invited them to Klaus and my coronation ceremony which she wanted to happen as soon as possible but the full moon was a bit farther so I asked her if I could live in the Blood Moon pack with my old family and she happily agreed.
