HAYLEY BLAKE
I watched the sun rise among the hills on the green horizon of the city in
silence. I could hear the pack awakening, all longing for the
end of the trial of traitors after seven days of condemnation,
the time had finally come when that torture would come to an end.
I refused to have coffee with my family, the wrapping in my
stomach prevented me from eating or drinking something, the smell of blood
still present in the air caused me nausea.
I was aware that it was not yet the end of the strays, there was
bands scattered throughout the territories, but after they had found
a map with the location of the other dens, Jack will send his
best males and females to hunt the rest of the strays and the
order was to burn them alive.
In the two days following the conversation with Jack, could say that the
things were improving, although there is still fear and
hesitation, we were struggling to fix what had been broken by
secrets, lies and confusion.
Smile lightly as I feel my hair being pushed to the side
and hot lips pressing the mark of my localized lineage
on my neck, I shuddered at his kiss in such a sensitive area.
Jack smiled against my skin, his warm breath rubbing against my neck.
I turned my head and found him behind me, the black hair still
moist by the freshly taken bath and the smell of soap filling
the fourth.
— How are you? — He asked, sitting next to me on the small sofa in front of the window.
I rested my head on your shoulder, breathing deep your smell
comforting.
— Eager to end it all at once, so we can
Going back home— I softly answered what was going on inside me.
I’m tired, Jack— confessed.
— Me too, little wolf, I too— kissed my forehead in response. — But
very soon we will return to our home.
Jack opened his arms and I nestled in chest, being involved
by his warm arms, squeezing me against him. We hugged
in silence for long minutes, without saying a word, as
we had done several times during the week, just enjoying the
each other’s presence. I didn’t want Jack to talk for hours,
though love to hear your voice, in those moments I wanted only
wanted to feel him next to me, know that he was there, with me, to have
I’m sure I didn’t lose him forever.
When Jack took me in his arms, I felt like nothing in the
world could separate us again.
A familiar howl echoed throughout the city, the signal we expected to
start the conviction of the guilty. I pressed against Jack, no
wanting to get away from the comfort of his arms. He sighed deep,
as reluctant as I, but unfortunately, we had duties to be
fulfilled. Jack gave me a look of excuses and deposited a
soft kiss on my mouth before getting up from the couch. I rubbed my face
and I followed him out of the room, his heart pounding in his chest.
I found my family waiting for us outside the house, Aiden
gave me an encouraging look and Becca smiled at me, Clary avoided
look in my direction, her face hard as stone, she was still
hurt and furious by the discussion we had days ago. Jack waved
to Isaac, and the beta and Madison went ahead, announcing our
approach. My family stood around us as faithful
comrades who would fight to death for us.
So with Jack and my family with me, I walked to the center of
city with its head held high, holding my partner’s hand.
The wolves made room to cross, all bowed before
we, in reverence to our power. Jack kept tightening my
hand, her face was cold and even cruel to many, but only I
could see him behind the mask he wore in front of people,
only I knew the kind and loving heart that beat inside the
his chest.
The sun was already intense at that time, your light made my eyes
watering. It was hard not to vomit when I came across the traitors
still stuck in the logs, the deplorable situation that they
was repulsive. Their bodies were cut and
scratched, blood stained the skin of each of the wolves, bones and
broken teeth, the smell was horrible. I had seen many scenes
horrible, but that was one of the worst.
My eyes were fixed on Camila, the traitorous wolf who fought to
keep awake. I could feel the looks of the whole pack on me,
waiting for a reaction, if I would hesitate and run away like a coward
before the tortured traitors, contrary to expectations, spit in the
floor, right in front of the condemned, and I murmured between teeth:
— Let their souls burn in the fires of hell.
Jack kissed my hand before releasing it and took the lead, calling to
attention of the wolves, all, turned to hear my partner speak:
— This morning the seven days of torture, punishment for crimes
committed by the guilty present, and finally came the day of
execution.
The people roared wild and animalistic, thirsty for more blood,
could almost feel in the air the primitive instincts of wolves, beasts
indomitable, hungry for justice. Jack raised his hand and all were silent
immediately, he set his eyes on one of the wolves.
— My younger sister, Lydia, was killed at the hands of the traitor called
Gregory. And as our law dictates, an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.
I have the right to claim justice for the blood of my blood that was
poured out unjustly and for this, Gregory’s life will be claimed by
my hands.
No one was stupid enough to go against the words of
Supreme. Jack turned his head in my direction.
— Just as my partner has the same right to claim death
of the traitor Camila with her own hands after being handed over to
strayed by the female, it’s her choice.
Unable to utter a word at that moment, I just waved
with my head, I had made a promise that would kill Camila, and no one
take away that right of mine. Eye for an eye, and tooth for a tooth. Not me
mattered what some people might think or opine saying
that revenge would not result in anything. Nothing would erase the hours I spent in the hands of the strays, I still had nightmares and woke up
screaming every night.
Camila chose her own destiny, death, by betraying her own people
and ally with the strays, condemning females to a reality
cruel. And now she would pay for it. I hated her, but not because of
insignificant relationship that Camila had with Jack in the past,
but because the wolf preferred to hurt and injure innocent females by
power, and it was unforgivable to betray your sisters by nature.
— And you’re free to take out the rest of the guilty, feel it
if at ease and enjoy the carnage— Jack concluded, being applauded
by the people.
I walked until I stopped before Camila, the wolf had her head tilted
towards the floor, breathing hard. I grabbed her chin,
piercing my sharp claws in her face, and held her head, she
moaned softly.
— I want you to look at me— I ordered in low tone, she continued
eyes away. — Now! — branded and with no other option, she stared at me,
and there was still a deep hatred there. — I want you to look at me, because
this will be the last face you’ll ever see in your miserable life.
Camila swallowed hard and tried to move her sore mouth, and babbled without
sound:
— Happy?
I let a bitter laugh slip away, cruelty taking my face.
I analyzed the wound made by Becca’s claws on the wolf’s face and smiles
openly, a wild, feline smile.
— Do not know the pleasure I have to see her like this, hurt and destroyed—
repeated the same words spoken by the traitor on the day
found in the lair of the strays. — And you said I was just
a bitch that barks, remember that?
Camila was not able to answer because of weakness and injuries
scattered about his body, and I felt no mercy at all,
not knowing how much pain she caused in other females.
I approached my face to Camila’s ear and whispered:
— Remember I said my bite is fatal?
Those were my last words before I bit the neck of
Camila, stick my fangs in your jugular and pull a piece of
flesh between my teeth, spitting on the ground then. The blood of
wolf gushed intensely, soiling me completely. I just watched her
coldly, drown in her own blood. And by a measly
second, I saw something like wonder on the female’s face, as if she had
before the devil.
I turned to the people and no one had the courage to look at me directly,
kept the distant gaze, only Jack stared at me with his face
clean. I ran my forearm through my mouth and cleaned some of the
blood that stained my face. I walked away from the wolf’s corpse
Dead traitor still shivering, Camila’s last look caused me
chills.
Jack was quick to execute the wolf. By the deep wounds and
bones in pieces, I could see that my partner had taken
a few hours torturing the male, and even then it wasn’t enough
to the Supreme Court, no torture or revenge would bring Lydia back.
Jack punched Gregory in the chest, causing him to spit blood and
heart of the wolf quickly, playing the still pulsating organ of the
male on the floor.
The Supreme Court gestured towards the other culprits and the people advanced
after the release of your Alpha, I turned my face, not wanting to see that
carnage. Wolves were primitive and ferocious creatures who loved
kill, and filled with rage and fury, they would tear the traitors to pieces
in a matter of seconds.
