Chapter WOLF — Chapter Eighty-nine

I saw Aiden take Rebecca away, that scene would probably cause

malaise in my pregnant sister— in— law. I noticed Clary staring at the bath

blood fixed, the fox even blinked, she was strangely

pale. From the look of Kitsune, witnessing that savagery made her

remember the massacre in your clan, this event that I remembered

cruelly. I held a sigh, she was in her reason not

want to look me in the face.

Jack stood beside me, diverted attention from Clary and stared at my

partner. A shadow of mourning and hatred still hung over his eyes

gray of the Supreme, the face twisted by the same feeling

I knew I carried myself.

— It’s done, Hayley— said Jack, the fangs shining sunlight. —

We’ll be home tomorrow.

I nodded in agreement, more than eager to return home,

to the city of Jack, the place where I was learning to call

home together with my family.

Mark called the Supreme Court to settle a territory issue and

I turned towards the house, I urgently needed to take a shower and take Camila’s blood from my body. But I caught it in place

when an unknown wolf appeared in front of me, made a

reverence and handed me a folded piece of paper, disappearing in

crowd of angry wolves soon after.

Confused by that weird event, I opened the paper and my

heart took a leap reading what was written:

"The Crescents ask for mercy, their parents' pack was

cursed and for years we suffer being hunted without terms as we

defend. His people suffer, vulnerable in the hands of enemies,

we claim our Alpha’s claim by right to lead us and

protect. Hear our call and answer our call for help."

I crumpled the piece of paper hard between my fingers, feeling the

blood in my veins boil. I searched once more for the wolf that me

delivered the note, but found no sign of her. I shoved the

paper in the pocket of jeans and made sure that no one had seen, and with

the keen senses, walked back home with my head

boiling.

My parents' pack, the Crescents, had been cursed by

a witch years ago, shortly after the rebellion and since then my

people, my pack, suffered in silence, being hunted and killed

unfairly. Aiden was the rightful Alpha of the pack and it was time to

my dear brother takes up his role of leading and protecting our

pack, or I’d break your nose.

As soon as I got to the house, I went straight to my room

bathroom, closing the door then. I took off the dirty clothes, leaving

the ticket over the marble sink and turned on the shower, allowing the hot water to cleanse my body. I rubbed my skin a few times and

washed my hair, thinking about what I would do in relation to the ticket of origin

unknown.

"Do you plan to hide Jack’s note?"

The Crescents needed help urgently. And Jack had others

priorities at the time, had my doubts if I should bother you

bringing more trouble. He was the Supreme Alpha, but the Crescents

was my pack, my responsibility, and cried for help.

"Can’t we have a moment of peace?"

Our people need us, rest can be for later when

all are well.

(....)

Jack came home at dusk, my bags were ready

to leave the next day.

He looked at me for a few seconds, sitting in the armchair in front of the window with a cup of hot chocolate in his hands and went straight to the bathroom, he was still dirty with blood and smelled horrors. I knew he would not approach me without first cleaning himself. I waited for him to take his bath patiently, thoughtfully about

my next steps.

The room was dark, lit only by the natural light of the moon and

stars. The stillness of the night conveyed calm to my heart

agitated, I drank another sip of hot drink, delighting me with the

sweet taste.

I bit my lower lip when the bathroom door was opened and Jack left,

a towel wrapped around his waist, wet hair from the bath and bare chest.

I struggled to keep my eyes on his face to

not fall into the temptation to kiss every piece of my strong body

partner.

— If you keep looking at me like that, I’m going to need another bath

cold, werewolf— he commented, and I smiled shyly, looking away.

Put on some clothes, I need to talk to you.

Jack stopped in front of me and put his hands on his hip, swallowed hard

with its approach.

Do I need to be dressed to talk?

I could see that darkness in your eyes, result of execution

of traitors, especially the wolf that killed Lydia. It had been a

hard day for Jack and he needed to get distracted, and I knew how to do it

perfectly by provoking it.

I narrowed my eyes and got on my knees in the armchair after putting the

cup on the floor, I leaned over Jack and whispered to his face:

— If you don’t cover your delicious body, I’ll attack you in a way

Nothing decent, and we won’t be able to talk.

The shadow in his eyes faded. The wretch opened a smile

malicious that made my blood warm and grazed our mouths, your

hot breath caressing my face. I felt her hand slip up

my waist and the grip he left on my meats made me

bow.

You know, if you attack me, I won’t object.

I held the hand he held on my waist and pulled it out of my body, Jack

grumbled.

— I know not. But now, Supreme, be a good boy and put on a

outfit.

Jack left a bite on my lower lip, a mischievous smile

open in the corner of your mouth.

You know you got me, right?

I held a smile, Jack made the situation impossible to become

serious.

— I’m a dominant female, supreme, I like to be in control.

Jack kissed the corner of my mouth, going down to my jaw and

But my chin, held a sigh.

— Sometimes I think you’re the male of the relationship, my love— whispered.

A loud laugh broke from the back of my throat, shattered my

hand on the Alpha’s chest and put enough force to push him away,

trying to stop laughing.

— Jack, we need to talk.

He snorted loudly, staring at me with boredom.

Can’t we have five minutes of peace in the middle of all this chaos?

I licked my lips.

— My only desire at this time is to lie in your arms and stay with

you're until sunrise, but I have something important to tell you,

Jack, something you can’t wait for anymore.

The fun left Jack’s face upon noticing the seriousness in my tone. He

settled and went to the closet, leaving with a pair of sweatpants after

few seconds, but the bastard refused to put on a blouse.

Focus, Hayley, stay focused.

Jack sat in the armchair next to mine and stared at me, waiting

I started talking. I pulled the air into my lungs,

squeezing the piece of paper in hand, under the watchful eye of mine

partner. I made a promise to Jackson that we wouldn’t keep anymore

secrets or lies in our relationship, we’d be a couple of

partners faithful to each other, would not put more trust than he

deposited in me the proof, it was still being difficult to fix the

wounds.

— I received this note today— spoke and delivered the piece of paper to

Jack.

He frowned and, reluctantly, picked up the note, opening it and reading the

content quickly, coming back to observe me then with the

tight lips. Only the pounding sound of my heart was heard

in the bedroom.

— You know I can’t ignore it— continued, tense with your

hush.

Jack kept watching me, a crease formed between his

thick eyebrows.

— So that’s what the lone wolf gave him after the execution.

I almost jumped out of the chair, blinked, surprised.

— Did you know that?

Jack folded the paper again and handed me over, his feature was calm and

your relaxed posture.

— I was informed of the presence of a solitary among us, and that she

had delivered something to you in the morning.

I left the note on the armchair.

— And wouldn’t you try to demand a response?

Jack smiled faintly, shaking his head in denial.

— I have no right to demand anything from you, Hayley, but I confess that

I was hoping you’d trust me to say what the wolf

He turned you in. I’m glad you’re honest.

I stretched out my arm, looking for your hand, and I tied our fingers.

— I promised I wouldn’t keep secrets from you— I reminded him.

Jack waved, confirming he remembered the promise we made

each other. He kissed my hand.

— What now? What will we do? — I asked quietly.

Jack ran his hand through damp hair and stared at the starry sky by

few seconds.

— For years, I’ve been looking for a way to break the curse

Crescent, but only the witch who created the enchantment can

break it, and she’s gone, there’s no sign of her.

— What do you know about her?

— Only that her name was Celeste and she possessed great power,

I don’t know why she cursed your pack, but no

found a solution.

— The Crescents are being hunted and killed, Jack, the pack that mine

parents died to protect could be extinct.

Jack ran his thumb across the back of my hand, his gaze was pure

understanding.

— We will return home tomorrow and continue in search of the break

to the curse, ok? I won’t stop until I find a way to save

the Crescents, I promise you. We’ll save your pack, wolf,

they will be free again.
