Chapter 21 : We Shouldn't Become Friends

21: We Shouldn't Become Friends

"Enemies?" Bai Ling was puzzled by Leticia's words. "Are we enemies?"

In her memory, Leticia had no reason to become her enemy.

"I suspect what's in that little head of yours isn't a brain, but mush." Leticia pressed a few keys on the keyboard, exiting the game and voice channel.

The upcoming conversation couldn't be heard by the Guild Leader.

"I don't need to say what the situation was when we first met, right?" Leticia asked with her arms crossed.

"Hmm?"

"Please, Miss Bai, you almost killed me. Doesn't that count as being enemies?" The black-haired girl looked directly into the girl's eyes, saying word by word, "Could I possibly be friends with someone who wanted to kill me?"

Bai Ling fell into contemplation. After a while, she looked up: "What if I gave up the idea of killing you?"

"Are you joking?"

"The current you doesn't make me feel threatened like you did seven years ago. If you can stay this peaceful, I have no reason to kill you." Bai Ling's voice was very serious, which let Leticia know this girl wasn't lying.

"Can I interpret that as a threat?" But Leticia scoffed at Bai Ling's words. "Who do you think you are? Why should I listen to you?"

"I just want to be friends with you." Bai Ling stood up from the chair and walked toward Leticia step by step.

"Friends? What nonsense are you talking about? Even if I jumped from here, I wouldn't be friends with you." Leticia rebuked angrily. "I'm the Demon King, you're humanity's Sword Saint. It's impossible for us to become friends!"

"But you just said I should have my own life, just like you. Are you really still that Demon King now?" Bai Ling walked in front of Leticia, expressionlessly repeating the words Leticia had just said.

"I... of course I'm still the Demon King." Leticia found her heart in chaos. Looking directly at such a girl at such close distance made that trace of emotion in her heart gradually stir.

Fundamentally, she didn't really dislike Bai Ling.

Before knowing the Sword Saint was Bai Ling, she had indeed hated the Sword Saint to the point her teeth itched. But when she learned that beneath the Sword Saint's skin was a girl like Bai Ling, that thick resentment gradually disappeared.

Toward such a beautiful girl as Bai Ling, Leticia really couldn't muster any negative emotions.

"But I'm no longer the Sword Saint. I'm just Bai Ya's sister now, a very ordinary girl." Bai Ling naturally noticed Leticia's wavering. Though this black-haired girl was stubborn, these past few days had made Bai Ling understand that she actually wasn't very resistant to her.

"Don't spout such nonsense. In my eyes, you're that Sword Saint—you were before, and you will be in the future. I absolutely won't become friends with you!" Leticia slapped away Bai Ling's outstretched hand. "Get lost and stop bothering me!"

Bai Ling, whose hand had been slapped, didn't show any displeasure. The force Leticia used didn't even make her feel pain. "If that's what you think, then fine."

Perhaps she should ask the Guild Leader how to make a tsundere girl like Leticia honestly express her feelings?

Bai Ling knew her communication skills were flawed. Dealing with a complex girl like Leticia by herself wasn't enough.

So she'd need outside help.

Anyway, there was still plenty of time. She had enough time to make Leticia recognize her own feelings.

Turning to pick up her computer, Bai Ling said quietly to Leticia: "Then I'll leave first."

"Go, get lost quickly, don't let me see you again!" Leticia showed an impatient expression.

Bai Ling disappeared from the room. Leticia looked at the spot where Bai Ling had just stood, feeling uncomfortable.

"Is there something wrong with my brain? She's someone who wanted to kill me, so why do I..." Plopping down in the chair, Leticia began reflecting on her recent actions.

She felt she'd been bewitched by beauty, just like those ancient emperors.

She actually had a trace of goodwill toward Bai Ling—an emotion that shouldn't have emerged.

Bai Ling was Stellar Sword Saint. Even though she had retired, she was still that Sword Saint who had wanted to kill her on the battlefield.

She was an enemy.

Having goodwill toward an enemy was absolutely unacceptable.

"I'm the Demon King... ahhh, so annoying!" Though she didn't want to admit it, Bai Ling was really quite beautiful.

If she weren't the Demon King, perhaps she'd happily become friends with Bai Ling.

But there were no "ifs" in the world. She, Leticia, was the Demon King.

She shouldn't and couldn't have goodwill toward humanity's Sword Saint.

Bai Ling's thoughts weren't wrong—deep in Leticia's heart, a Demon King still lived.

But Leticia herself didn't actually want to become that Demon King.

"Really, whoever wants to be this Demon King can be it!"

If possible, Leticia even wanted to hand over her position to her sister right now, but she knew this wasn't feasible.

Qila's personality was too aggressive. Making her the Demon King would inevitably cause very serious consequences.
