Chapter 45

~Mia Pov~

I couldn't help but feel uneasy as I paced around the small cabin. Leah had been gone for a while now, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. What if she had been caught by the black bird wolves? What if they had found out where we were hiding?

Blake, who was sitting on the couch and reading a book, suddenly looked up at me. "What's with all the pacing? You're making me dizzy."

I stopped and faced him. "I'm just worried about Leah. She's been gone for a while now and I'm afraid something might have happened to her."

Blake rolled his eyes. "Leah can handle herself. She'll be fine."

"But what if she's not? What if they caught her and found out where we are?" I exclaimed, my voice rising with panic.

Blake stood up and grabbed my shoulders, staring at me intently. "Mia, you need to stop worrying. It's not helping either of us. We have to think of a plan to protect ourselves and strike back at the black bird wolves."

I looked down, feeling guilty for causing Blake's frustration. "I know. I just can't help but worry because I don't want to be capture again."

Blake sighed and released his grip on my shoulders. "I have a suggestion. We can use the moon chaser pack to our advantage."

I looked at him, intrigued. "How?"

"We'll make it seem like you escaped from the black bird wolves' den and you need a place to hide. The moon chaser pack still cares about you enough to offer you shelter. With that, we can get information about the pack and plan an attack. Plus, if the black bird wolves try to track us, they'll be led to the moon chaser pack instead."

I frowned. "But I don't belong to the moon chaser pack anymore. And Derick banished me from the pack. He won't believe me."

Blake narrowed his eyes at me. "Make him believe you. No matter what. We need to do this to protect ourselves."

I sighed, feeling conflicted. I didn't want to betray the pack, especially Derick who had shown me kindness before. But at the same time, I knew we needed to protect ourselves from the black bird wolves.

"I'll try," I said, unsure of myself.

"You have to do more than just try," Blake said firmly. "We're in this together, Mia. And I need you to be brave."

I nodded, knowing that there was no turning back now. I had to do what I had to do to protect myself and Blake.

As the night went on, I couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and unease in my stomach. But I tried my best to keep my composure, to act as if everything was fine. I knew I had to convince Derick to believe me, even if it meant going against everything I believed in.

I woke up feeling heavy and troubled, the betrayal of Lucas was still fresh in our minds, and the air was thick with tension. As we all gathered for pack training, I could feel the weight of Derick's disappointment in the air. He was being extremely strict, no smiles, no jokes, just pure focus. We were all pained, and then, someone made a mistake.

Derick's anger erupted like a volcano, and he beat the hell out of the poor guy. We had to intervene and stop Derick from going too far. His shouting echoed in the clearing, "You're all betrayers!" The atmosphere was tense, and it felt like we were walking on thin ice.

Suddenly, something caught our attention. We saw Jessica and Mia walking towards us. Mia was looking pale and exhausted. Derick asked what she was doing here, but Mia broke down in tears and said she managed to escape from the Black Bird Wolves pack, and right now, she didn't know where to go.

Derick didn't believe her, and neither did I. We had just been betrayed by Lucas, and it was hard to trust someone who had not been around for a while. Jessica, however, turned to Derick and said, "Perhaps Mia can stay with us."

Derick said no and asked Mia to leave because she was already banished. Jessica got furious and said, "Seriously? Mia was one of us. Fine, she did something bad, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look out for her if she needs help just like now."

I stepped in and told Jessica not to make things hard for Derick because we had just been betrayed. It was hard to trust someone who had not been around for a while. But Jessica shut me up and said, "If we shouldn't trust someone, definitely it should be you because you once belong to the enemy pack before, and we still trust you!"

I felt a pang of hurt as her words hit me, but I tried not to let it show. Instead, I took a deep breath and said, "We're all on the same team here, Jessica. We shouldn't be fighting amongst ourselves."

Derick, however, wasn't listening. He was still fixated on Mia's presence. "Why did you come here?" he demanded, his voice cold.

Mia looked up at him, her eyes pleading. "I didn't know where else to go," she said. "I just need a place to stay for a while."

Derick seemed to soften a little, but he still wasn't convinced. "I'll think about it," he said, before turning and walking away.

As the rest of the pack dispersed, one of the pack member, caught up with Jessica. "Are you okay?" she asked her.

She shrugged. "I'm fine," she said. "I just don't like the way Derick is treating Mia."

The lady nodded in agreement. "Me neither," she said. "But we have to trust Derick's judgement. He's the alpha for a reason."

Jessica sighed. "I know," she said. "But it's hard to see someone suffer, especially when they're asking for help."

As they both walked away from the training ground, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. Lucas's betrayal had shaken us all, and I didn't know what to expect next.
