It's been a week since I came back, after that, we didn’t exchange much words. We are still staying at my parents home. She kept her distance and so did I.
I also think it’s for the best, before we both make an irredeemable mistake, we better pull ourselves back because we both know we are not meant to be together, which somehow pricked my heart.
“Ryan.. Breakfast is served.” She said, dragging me out from my thoughts. I went to have breakfast.
“Are you devoted to Ryan?” Mom asked.
“No.” She lied. I didn’t react and stood up.
“I’ll take my leave.” I said.
“You broke his heart.” Mom said. Rebecca looked up at me and passed me a faint smile.
“I am not hurt.” She said, turning back to her food. I have lived with you enough Rebecca to know what this sentence means.
‘You have my heart. And I have yours.’
A smile crept upon my lips as I shook my head and walked away and left for my work.
My day went normal and I returned home, unaware of the upcoming storm.
I entered and saw Rebecca looking down in.. shame? While Mom is scolding her?
I walked in and asked, “What happened?” Rebecca looked at me surprised but soon again looked down.
“I told you she is a witch! She has blinded you!” Mom shouted.
“What happened, Mom?”
“Ask your wife. Hah, how can she tell you about her depraved acts?” She derided Rebecca. I turned to look at her, her gaze was the one I haven’t seen in a while; devoid.
“She is cheating on you!” She yelled. My eyes widened as only one voice came out from me was; no..
I swallowed hard and wasn't able to understand her words.
“Mom, I am sure you have misunderstood something.”
“Then take a look at it.” She showed me a picture in which Rebecca is sitting on a guy’s lap, with her arms around his neck.
My heart shattered into pieces. I turned to her and whispered vaguely, “It’s a lie, isn’t it?” She shook her head no.
“Then, it’s before our marriage, isn’t it?” I asked hopefully. She again shook her head no and then my world came to a crash.
“I promise, I will not be angry at you. Tell me the reason, Rebecca.” I asked desperately as tears brimmed in my eyes, I wanted to be considerate, I wanted to understand her position.
I know my Rebecca. She was loyal when she had no obligations to and now nothing could convince me that she is cheating me.
“What will she say when there's nothing?!” Mom said I shouted, “ENOUGH MOM! I AM ASKING MY WIFE!”
I held her shoulders and turned her to me. She kept looking down, with tears streaming down.
“Tell me the reason, Rebecca. I trust you.” I asked, on the verge of crying.
She didn’t reply as I closed my eyes and turned my head away.
My lips began to quiver as I wiped my tears, “Don’t tell Dad about it.” I said and held Rebecca arms and took her with me.
None of us spoke a word and continued to cry. My heart felt like being torn to pieces as nothing existed for me anymore and the dreams I began to see with her were crushed.
The anguish ate me up from inside and I couldn’t think straight. My heart felt heavy, I felt extreme distress and agony. Lost in the abyss, I reached home and took her inside.
She didn’t utter a word and kept looking down which hurt me even more.
Please give me any justification.
I took her to our room.
“We are alone now, you don’t have to worry about anyone. Tell me now. You know you can tell me.” I told her softly.
Our room was dark, the sound of her sobs filled the absence of sound.
“Rebecca, speak up!” I raised my voice but my effort was futile.
I looked at her for the last time and gave her a look of heartbreak, cheating but I couldn’t look at her in resentment, my heart still believes that she has no fault but her silence is breaking my hopes.
“You have disappointed me, Rebecca.”
Feeling miserably devastated, I shook my head; disappointment that she is still not saying anything. Not being able to bear it anymore.
I took a step back walking out of the room, closing the door behind me, hearing a ‘clicking’ sound but I ignored it and went away.
I went back home and called Mom,
“Finally gonna leave that bitch or not?” She asked. I walked to her and began to say in a low yet enraged voice,
"Do not concern yourself with my wife anymore. The only one who can doubt her is me. I don't want you to talk about Rebecca ever again. " She gasped and shouted,
"Can't you see what she has done?! What happened to you Ryan?!"
"Before you lose me Mom, stay out of our matters." I snarled.
"Don't you believe me?! Leave her before she destroys your life."
"I will never leave Rebecca."
"She cheated on you." Mother reasoned.
'I can be anything but I cannot be a cheater.' Her words echoed in my mind, not letting me think straight.
"She can be anything but she can't be a cheater." I replied, firmly.
"Why are you-"
"Only I have the right to question her." I tried to be as calm as possible. I will ask her again but right now I must silence Mother before she does something that would make her lose me forever.
"What happened to you, Ryan?! Have you gone blind or What?!" She said exasperated.
"Stop it, Mom."
"No, I want to know what happened to you?"
"Just don't involve yourself with Rebecca anymore. I don’t want anyone to vex her further." I said, turning away, rubbing my temples.
"TELL ME!"
"YES I HAVE GONE BLIND BECAUSE I HAVE FALLEN FOR HER! EVERY INCH OF MY CORE DESIRE NOTHING BUT HER!”
She gasped as I continued to confess.
“ I AM SO IN LOVE WITH HER! I FUCKING LOVE HER!"
