Ryan POV:-
“You are being too obvious, Ryan.” Jayden said. I put my hand over my forehead and exhaled in stress.
“The more I try to isolate myself the more she tries to get close.” I said.
“Then don’t try to isolate yourself. Take this slowly.” He explained, taking a seat.
“How?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“First, her top priority is you. She will never do anything as long as you are here.” He explained, I nodded.
“Second, she loves talking to you, and replies to her every question but in an uninterested tone.” I nodded again in understanding but also getting irritated how he emphasized on 'you' every time.
“Third, She wants attention from you. Don’t be cold.”
"Stop emphasizing Jayden, I get it she wants everything from me!" I said, stressed.
"Then why are you forcing her to me?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at me.
I stilled as my eyes widened for a second. My mind was filled with heartbreaking thoughts which pained me a lot.
" Why do I need to act cold?” I asked, avoiding his previous statement. He sighed and shook his head.
“She is not in the condition to bear your sudden change of behaviors. Be kind with her... for now.” He explained.
“Okay..” I said leaning back.
“And yeah, let me tell you.”Jayden stood up and unbuttoned his coat.
“I am doing this just for Rebecca, if I feel like my presence is hurting her, I will leave and tell her everything.” he said seriously.
“And I certainly don’t deserve her.” I mumbled.
"Try to know what she wants for once, Ryan!" Jayden said, agitated.
"I just know my presence is a curse for her." I said, looking away.
He gave me a look of pity and left without saying anything else.
I closed my eyes, my heart hurt, I felt so hollow as if all emotions were leaving my body and the thought of leaving Rebecca broke my heart.
It feels like I am crumbling apart and falling deep into those endless pits of misery.
In the evening, I went home. Rebecca came to me and grinned.
"Welcome home!"
The more I try to be cold the more enthusiastic she becomes. Ever since last month, she has stopped hiding her feelings and it was so hard to be away from her.
The emotions I died to see, she is showing them and I want to lose myself in it.
"Someone is here to meet you~" She sang tilting her head and looked so adorable that I wanted to stare endlessly at her.
"Who?" I asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Me." An old voice came and I turned to see Grandma. My face lit up in happiness when I saw her. I rushed to her and gave her a side hug.
She cupped my cheeks with her old hand and kissed my forehead. I still love how her and my eyes looked the same.
"Ah, My Love. How are you?" She asked.
"I am very fine. But I am not talking to you for not coming into my marriage." I said showing fake sadness.
"You know how old I am." She said, wrapping her arms around me. I chuckled and looked at Rebecca smiling at me.
"I am glad that you have a wife like her." Grandma said.
Rebecca tugged a strand of her hair behind her ear and replied, "Thanks."
"Ryan, Mr and Mrs Knight are here too." She told me. I stopped and didn't react and haven't seen Mom and Dad ever since then.
I wonder if Rebecca knew about the culprit of that Carlos incident. I looked at her, she was smiling. I nodded and was about to leave for my room but Rebecca stopped me.
"Where are your manners? Go and greet them first, Ryan." She told me, glaring at me to go.
I looked at her for a second and then nodded. I went to the lounge and saw Mom and Dad. She stood up and engulfed me in a hug, I didn’t react, glaring at her, seeing her blood boil.
"Don't tell Rebecca about our child." Mom looked at me and nodded.
"I am sorry, My Son." She cried, holding me tightly.
“Don’t do anything in front of her. You have already done enough.” I hissed, pulling away coldly from her.
“Ryan? Is everything okay?” Rebecca came, asking hesitantly.
“Yeah. Don’t worry.” I hummed, instantly hiding Mama’s face in my arms to act as if she was hugging me.
“Ryan..” Father came, patting my shoulder as I pulled away.
“Don’t expect me to play with friends after what happened.” I hissed in her ears before turning my attention back to Rebecca.
"Ryan, Grandma will stay with us." She then looked at her and asked hopefully, "Right?"
"Of course, My child. I also want to be with my granddaughter in law." She giggled as Grandma hugged her.
They cling onto each other as if Rebecca is her grandchild not me.
We then had a family dinner. It was good and peaceful, except for the look of pity of everyone for Rebecca and my glare at Mother.
But it was overall great. We talked about different stuff and Grandma suddenly asked, "Have you thought about having a kid?"
I looked at her in anger to ask something absurd like this when she knew what happened. Rebecca stopped eating and blushed.
She laughed nervously and moved her head to the side shyly.
"Uh, Grandma, Why not? Not a bad idea. Right, Ryan?"
And upon her words, I was stiff. No, No, NO! I can't.
I don't want to hurt you. I gulped hard, Rebecca turned to look at me bashfully waiting for me to say something about it. She is making me feel so awkward.
"I am tired. Good Night, everyone."
I stood up and left. I went to our room and grit my teeth. It's not that I don't want to but why don't Rebecca get it? We are not meant for each other.
My presence is terminal for her. I swallowed hard and pulled my hair in frustration. I sat on the bed and looked at the back of my palm where Rebecca kissed.
'I worship you, Ryan'
My heart skipped a beat as I felt butterflies in my stomach. I sat there motionless, lost in abysmal thoughts but then Mom and Grandma came.
"You shouldn't have done that Ryan." Mom said sadly..
"I don’t need to hear anything from you." I hissed at her.
“Ryan, I know Sarah had committed a low act but did she know you love her? Or are you happy?” Grandma asked, trying to make up between us but I can’t allow this to happen anymore.
“Grandma, do you have any idea what her one stupid action led us?” I asked furiously.
“I know but at least you know she needed medical help, not you.” Grandma hummed, speaking a painful truth.
“But…” I trailed off, lowering my head.
“I am so sorry, Ryan. Please forgive me, you are my only child. I know I went overboard but you are my life, my son. Please don’t leave me, I am nothing without your love.” Mama cried, begging, joining her hands.
“Please don’t hate me. I can’t bear it, I swear I won’t do anything anymore but please forgive me.” She cried silently, pleading with me desperately.
“Just.. don’t involve yourself with us anymore.” I muttered, turning my head away.
She cried, holding my hands and kissing them, my heart clenched as I have never seen my mother like this before and it pricked my chest.
“Thank you, thank you so much.” She whispered, holding me tightly. I remained motionless, unsure of what to do as Grandma also sat beside me.
