“Leo, I hope you don't mind what happened in your company?” Robert said while he was tasting his wine. Robert smiled while he was looking at Erin, who had a big smirk on her lips. Robert felt unhappy because of what he had done but he was only obeying what Sophia wanted him to do.
Robert couldn't understand why Sophia kept doing everything to get Erin's trust. If it weren't for Sophia, Robert would have done it.
“Dad, Leo didn't mind it. Don't think that he is mad at you.” Erin grinned, and moved closer to Leo. Amelia was watching her daughter being happy. She was so happy for Erin to finally get what she wanted.
“I want to make sure that he isn't mad. After all, I didn't like to pressure him that way. Leo, my daughter is so madly in love with you. I think it's better if we merge our company after you marry my daughter.” Robert wanted to grab the opportunity to be more connected to the Fontaine Company. If he became part of Fontaine, he could be the upcoming owner of the company.
Leo pursed his lips; he sipped a small amount of his wine. “Fontaine is a family business. I don't think my co-owner will agree to merge it because, starting today, our family's company is exclusive to the Fontaine family members. I'm sorry if I decline your offer, Robert.”
Robert frowned because he didn't even know what had happened in the meeting room. What he found out was that every board member that he had talked with was soon to be poor because of Leopold Fontaine.
“Jane, my cousin, told me that our family business would need to be exclusive to us. Aside from that, those investors only have two percent of the money in our company. My relatives had their own company, aside from managing our family business. They trust me to be CEO of the company, and I even asked them if they were fine with it.”
“To avoid betrayals, my family relatives think that it's a good idea. I don't like to work with those people who like to complain whenever they want, as if they are the ones who worked hard in Fontaine. All they did was steal a lot of money from my company, so now the only investor that we accepted was only part of the Fontaine family.“
Robert gulped and slowly nodded. He couldn't believe that Leo would decline his offer without even thinking. Leo was so cruel, and it looked like Robert woke up at Leo's side.
Robert knew how brilliant Leo was. He could do whatever he wanted, so he didn't know why Leo wished to eat with them for Erin's hand. He felt scared that Leo might be planning something against him.
Robert couldn't calm himself from getting anxious. He coughed to stop himself from worrying about a lot of things.
“Oh. I understand. It's fine with me. Well, your cousin, Jane, is brilliant. She is so good at business. I didn't know she worked with your wife, and got her company.” Robert wanted Leo to investigate everything. It was his way to make Leo see that he was prepared if Leo wanted to make war with him.
Leo nodded and placed the slice of steak in his mouth. He elegantly chewed the meat and twitched his lips sexily.
“I'm pleased that Jane had the courage to let everyone know that she was a Fontaine. She is so great in business and more powerful than me.” Leo wasn't bothered that Robert investigated his family background deeper because he knew it was only a minor detail that Robert had discovered.
His family's secrets were only for them, and his family did everything to hide those secrets. They even removed whoever knew about it.
“Oh, it's so easy to find out more about my family. It looks like you think that my family is very interesting.” Leo made sure that Robert would see that he was being sarcastic with him. He grinned evilly and took the wine glass.
“I don't want to waste time. I want to marry your daughter. It looked like your daughter was so head over heels that she even needed to sneak into my house and expose her body in front of me.” Hearing what Leo had said, Erin widened her eyes in disbelief, while Robert was stunned.
Robert's hand shook as he felt the fury in his body. He thought that he was going to explode abnormally, and Leo was such an enemy in his eyes.
“Leo, why do you need to do that? Did you see my father now? He's mad at you.” Erin was hesitant, and she couldn't stop cringing when Robert's sight landed on her. She swallowed and took a deep breath.
“I want your father to know what you always did. That house is exclusively for my wife, and you keep going there. I feel that you're disrespecting my memories of her. And I don't think your father pushed you to those things.” Leo gnashed his teeth, and his eyes were pierced.
“Leo, I didn't know that you were like that. I'm disappointed.” Robert calmed himself down, and he felt that he was more disappointed in his daughter. He didn't know that Erin kept seducing Leo to sleep with her. If he knew, he might have charged Erin with their house.
Robert felt that his pride was shattered because he didn't respect his ex-wife at all. He even took Amelia to the house while his wife was still there. He felt Leo was trying to hit his nerves again, but felt guilty.
“Erin, I can't believe you stepped down this low. You are the successor of our company, and you even kneeled for Leo,” Robert added, and took his glass of wine. Leo shrugged his shoulders.
“Dad, I'm sorry. I love Leo so much, and I couldn't live without him. Please.” Erin tried to persuade her father when they reached their house. She couldn't believe that Leo would expose whatever she did. She felt that she didn't have a face to look at Leo.
“Erin, I don't understand why you did that. Leo still wasn't moving on to his wife, and you kept pestering him. It's been six months, and he didn't like that we were pressuring him!” Robert gritted his teeth. He was so close to Leo, and now, it looked like Leo wanted to make war between them. It was because of Erin.
“Six months are too long to move forward. Dad, you're not mourning your ex-wife when she died.” Erin was so annoyed, and she didn't even notice that Sophia was listening from above. That was the reason why Sophia was so mad at Robert, and she didn't think that she would forgive her father.
“Shut up! You didn't know everything. You don't know my pain. Erin, you are so stupid to think that I didn't grieve for her. Your mother knew that I blamed myself every day because I feel it was my fault that she died.” Robert didn't want Erin to know the truth but Erin pushed him. Erin was so shocked when she heard how her father was so affected because of his first wife.
“Huh, that is why you didn't marry my mother! Daddy, I can't believe this!” Erin yelled, and she felt hurt because of her mother. Amelia was silent all along, and her anger at Robert's first wife shook her up again.
Robert looked away. “Yes, I don't like to replace her. She's my only wife, and you are the result of my mistake. Erin, it would help if we'd be grateful that I still did everything for you. I didn't even blame you, and your mother. I even sacrificed my relationship with my daughter because of this guilt.”
“Daddy! This is ridiculous! You are lying!”
“No, I'm not. Your mother didn't replace my wife in my heart. Ask her when was the last time that I slept with her. If Sophia didn't ask me to let you marry Leo, I would disagree with her.”
“Robert, how could I tell everything to my daughter? I can't believe you!” Amelia was irritated; she felt embarrassed that Erin knew everything she was trying to hide.
“Dad, what is happening here? Don't let Erin be upset. She is excited about marrying Leo. Please.” Sophia felt that her anger towards her father faded too fast. She didn't know that Robert was blaming himself. She thought that Robert had just left her, and now she realized why Robert didn't have the face to even look at her.
She was the version of her mother. Robert felt guilty whenever he saw her face.
Erin tried to relax. Hearing how Sophia talked to their father about her wedding with Leo made her slowly feel happy. She forgot about what she had found out because she thought that it was her mother's fault that she didn't do anything to make Robert love her.
If Erin married Leo, she would make sure she would do everything to make Leo love her. She didn't mind if she acted selfishly this time.
“Sophia, I'm so thankful that you are here. Dad kept making me feel unhappy.” Erin went to Sophia and hugged her tightly. Sophia caressed Erin's hair.
Sophia glimpsed at her father and took a deep breath before saying, “Dad, don't make her unhappy. Could you let Erin marry Leo? It is the only way for her to be happy. As her older sister, I needed to support her.”
Amelia could finally sigh in relief. She was thankful that Sophia was at their side now. Robert might not love her like how he loved his first wife, but she was the one who won. Sophia was their ally. Amelia knew that Sophia was searching for her parents' love, and Amelia did those things to make Sophia attached to her.
Robert's face was full of disbelief. He didn't know why Sophia kept tolerating Erin, but he had no choice but to agree with Sophia.
Sophia was his weakness, and he would do everything to make his first daughter happy after everything he had done to her.
“Okay, I will plead with Leo to marry Erin.” Robert left agitated because of his decision, while Erin was so happy that she almost embraced Sophia again.
“This week, you will marry Leo,” Sophia mumbled. Of course! She would do anything to make their plans work. Sophia smiled, but she was satisfied that their plans would work.
“Congratulations, Mr. and Ms. Fontaine!” The whole crowd screamed in delight when Erin and Leo got inside the reception area. Leo didn't have any expression, and he didn't even mind that the Fontaine family didn't come to his wedding.
Sophia grinned and waved her hands at Erin when Erin waved at her. Sophia took her phone and messaged someone.
Sophia glimpsed Robert, who had a severe expression while he was looking at Erin. Sophia went to him, and there was a grin on her face.
“Dad, did you know that Erin looked so much like Uncle Sam? Which is very weird because you don't look like Uncle Sam.” Sophia wanted to create suspicion in Robert.
Robert scowled because he was sure that Erin looked like him. But Robert couldn't stop himself from watching Sam from afar. Sam was with Erin, and Erin was smiling widely at Sam. At the same time, Amelia's eyes were sparkling so much as if she saw her family happily.
Robert slowly noticed that Erin looked like Sam, and he remembered that Sam had told his wife about Amelia. Robert shook violently. He didn't like what he was thinking, but Sophia stated the facts.
“They look like they are a happy family without us. My friend told me you didn't look like Erin, and it was Uncle Sam.” Sophia added, and she tried to stop herself from grinning.
“Dad, did you think that uncle Sam had an affair with Amelia behind your back? Well before Erin's wedding, I saw her talking to Uncle Sam on the phone. I think it was Uncle Sam's idea to take the company from your hands. I found out that Uncle Sam was so obsessed with mom when she was alive. I still remember when I was six that I saw Uncle Sam trying to force Mom to sleep with him.” Sophia was sure that Robert didn't know everything because what her mother did was to keep silent, for she was too scared that Robert might kill his brother.
“Are you sure about it?” Slowly, even though Robert didn't want to believe it, there was a part of him that thought whatever Sophia had been saying to him.
“There is a surveillance camera everywhere in our house. You don't even have time to check it. I will tell you the exact date when it happens.” Sophia smiled and looked at Erin. “You should smile, Dad. Don't let them know that you know the truth.”
