I rushed over to the school dance hall to make it in time before Kate would come, she had told me to be right there waiting for her after five hours, I had been counting the time.
Everyone seems to be working hard for this show, there was no practice hall I passed that they weren’t practicing in, I felt left out since there was no group that wanted me, the mean girls had been so clear about it and that was the reason Kate was taking that big risk and it was all for me.
I stood by a pillar in the lobby glancing down at my wristwatch, I had been here twenty minutes earlier and had been waiting. I glanced sideways for any sight of Kate but she was not forthcoming.
I could hear some sound coming from the closed door. I took light steps over, peeking in through the glass. I saw a few students with their dance clothes and shoes dancing to the beat of the music.
“Wow.” My mouth turned up to the flip I saw one did, she had lifted her body like it was a feather, I wondered who she was, I looked at her intently, truly this school was a school of art to have people like that.
I swallowed hard and a tingling feeling of uneasiness shrunk in my stomach. Can I really do this? Again, that doubt keeps rising in my heart when I see some expectations.
I kept staring at the lady as she did more flips and the other’s also tried to do it, my face fell, and my heart, seemed I would only be a peeping tom.
“What are you staring at?” I heard someone speak behind me and my heart almost jumped out as I flinched. “Why do you look startled?” Ryan came over to my side looking at my white face.
“Shit! You scared the hell out of me.” I frowned at him placing my hand on my chest to calm my breathing.
“Why are you whispering?” He blinked at me and that was when I realized that I had whispered the words out and I questioned myself for it in my head since I was not doing anything wrong right now. “What were you staring at?” Ryan glanced at the small glass window and saw the lady I have been staring at and the other students that were with her. “Are you stealing other’s dance moves?” He turned to me.
“I am not!” I said in a loud voice this time. “What do you take me for?” I furrowed my brows, I always get worked up whenever I see him.
“Why are you raising this time?” He raised the corner of his brows at me. “You are making it obvious that you were stealing their dance moves.” I gritted my teeth at him, there was no point responding to him since he has a way to win the bickering and it would be childish to keep saying I wasn’t. “Whereas, I was only asked a question, not criticizing you.” He turned his eyes back to the room.
What is the difference between you and an annoying person? I shook my head at him and turned to look at her as she did the flip again.
“Who is she?” I asked Ryan and he turned to me.
“She?” He exhaled softly. “She is a good ballet dancer but she couldn’t make it to Julinda school a ballet dancer school, so she made it in here, but as you can see this is more of a step up school than a ballet dancer school so she had been trying to dance like us by mixing ballet dancing to it, I told her countless times that it was hopeless.” He turned to the room again. “She believes she still can do it since she has a role model, someone she saw in a movie did it and she thinks she can, she is only stressing her poor life out.” He poked his air.
I glared at Ryan wondering if this boy has any emotion that what he was saying could hurt the other person, I doubt he does.
“So you know her?” I looked at him.
“Yes I do, she was among my set, she danced along with me and Katherine, but they kept on pushing her away since it wasn’t her thing, I got a better chance and got signed with the agent who picked me, I made it to stardom and yet they are still here.”
I rolled my eyes at him. “No one asked you to boast, whereas you are back here with us so beat it.” I gnashed my teeth at him hoping to see him offended but it didn’t work, he only chuckled./
“You are naïve Ivana, I may be here but still got my spot as the leader of the BHSD group, I was only begged by Robin and the director to show up here and motivate the other’s since you all seem to be taking this show for granted.” He smiled at me and I blinked.
I was bemused, wondering what he was talking about. “Wait, do you mean you are not part of this show?” I looked up at him curiously.
“I am not, although everyone thinks I am so they are angry at the director for taking me here and they all feel I will also win the show, but, as you see, my presence here seems to motivate others and,” He pointed at the door as I looked at the lady and the other student. “They see me as a competition and they are trying their best to make sure I don’t make it this time.” Ryan leaned close to my face with a smile on his face. “I got all of you fooled.”
I was in a daze with these words, Katherine has been so mad to see Ryan back at the show, she must be as confused as all of us and she must be working her bones out just to make sure he doesn’t win again.
